Beyond the Reach

Beyond the Reach, the leadership development program organized by Leo club
of University of Moratuwa, Leo Club of Mattegoda, Leo club of Bulathsinghala, Leo
club of Raigampurawaraya was conducted on 7th of February at the Lagaan area in
University of Moratuwa.

Lion Roshan Latheef conducted the first session, which was an interactive
lecture. Then Leo Yasendra did some activities to build team spirit and fellowship of
Leos. It developed the confidence, courage, time management of the participants. Also
Team work, communication skills and inter-relationships were improved among the
participants. The day was full of fun with excitement, leadership and new experiences.
Leos wiped out the dust and took up the challenge. They touched Beyond the Reach.

Valentines Day isnt just about togetherness for couples, its about love
in general.

Fight Against Cancer

Did you know that more than half of the world population celebrates
Valentines Day by purchasing a greeting card? While there are many Valentines
Day traditions, this year we Leos thought of a different tradition. Leos dedicated
that day for the small kids in Maharagama National Cancer Hospital.

Leo Club of Unawatuna Diamond Stars, Leo Club of Negambo Host, Leo
Club of University of Moratuwa, Leo Club of Piliyandala, Leo Club of Biyagama
and Leo Club of Colombo Knightz joined their hands together to organize this
worthy cause. Some celebrities also joined to make the event a success. There were
many activities and events which bought much happiness for the kids. We spent
a joyful day with them by singing songs and listening to their spellbinding chats.
And also we distributed gifts among them. Their bloomed faces and glittering
eyes told us about their happiness. Love is a universal language that everyone can
understand. On that day we felt the depth of love. Dream was able to add a value
to the valentine day.


UoM Leos - two inseparable words. Yes indeed, UoM Leos are two
inseparable words. They are simply strong. In order to tight up the bond, every year
hidden members are searched. The orientation is the program which the different
generations of UOM Leos meet the newest blood.

The Orientation Program 2k16 was happened on 23rd of February with the
presence of honorable guests and many future leaders. There were fun moments as
well as heart touching speeches.


Lion Vidula Hasaranga, Vice President of Dehiwala North Lions described
what he got from the Leoism while Leo Chathuranga Gunasekara - Past President
of UoM Leos explained how the LEO movement was an added advantage to his
career. Also the fun at Leoism was expressed Leo Dinusha Amarasekara -Regional
Director, in a very interesting way.

Leo Youth Camp 2016

When I utter the words Leo Youth Camp 2016 so many wonderful cherished
memories flood my mind. Someone once said that Dont you think now is the
time to be adventurous while were still young. Leo Youth Camp 2016 of 306
A2 was such an adventurous wonderful experience. It was successfully conducted
at Diyathalawa Military Base on last 26th 27th and 28th with the participation of
more than 100 Leos.


From the beginning the experience we gained was amazing. On the first day
after the opening ceremony all the Leos were divided into 10 groups and all the
tasks done at the camp was according to these assigned groups. During the evening
there was a weapon show at the MSTS where we had so much excitement getting
exposed to real time weapons. During the night there was a small talent show and
the Leo parliament was a novel experience for most of the participants and the day
was ended with so much laughter with it. The next day was a day to remember
for I think almost every participant because it was the day for hiking. Trekking
through the wild, getting ourselves bruised, the team bond, exploring new paths,
facing challenging tasks and many more novel experiences. We spent nearly 6
hours hiking and in the end we had to make our lunch. A tiring day was ended
with a marvelous camp fire in the freezing breeze near Fox hill super cross racing
field. Each and every day was filled with excitement and adventure. The last day
at the camp started with obstacle clearance. Every one of us felt like we were
training to be soldiers crawling under the barbed wires, jumping over 9 walls. The
team spirit, leadership skills, fearlessness to face any risk, determination towards
winning everything was boosted up in each and every individual. After that we
got the great opportunity to have first-hand and most probably once in life time
experience in aerial rope, rock climbing and many more. The last scheduled event
consisted of a collection of more team spirit building games. At the end every one
of us learnt how to work in a team, how much we have to contribute for the sake
of the team, what is our role in the team and how to cope up with others. So the
3 days ended with building good motivated determined highly spirited leaders
within the Leos. Special thanks must go to the DP Leo Pramod Wimalatunga,
the camp chairman Leo Lion Kalindu Dissanayake, DCL Lion Thulitha Piyasena,
memorable hike organizers Leo Dineth Saranga and Leo Sachintha Suranda and
all the organizers who were the backbones of this successful event and finally
Sri Lankan Military Academy Diyathalawa and Volunteer Force Training School
Diyathalawa for giving us one remarkable training for 3 days.

If you can dream it, you can do it!

Dreams.. Every one of us has dreams of our own; some are small and some
are big. From the childhood we begin dreaming and when our maturity level grows
up and our perception, aspect towards life amends may be the dreams expand their
branches even wider or else turn into a completely different path. However the
most important part is not dreaming but making dreams real.

Its not such an easy task to make dreams real, but it doesnt mean that its
impossible. Initially we need to have inevitable courage and perseverance from the
beginning to the end. Most importantly we should have a solid faith on ourselves
as well as flexibility to adapt in our dreams according to the existing situations.
Unfortunately many of us forget the fact and fail to seek our purpose in dreaming.
Once the dream is commenced we try to follow it up with a list of all the reasons
why the dream is unachievable. We fill our life with excuses and I cant. Many
great companies were conceived from a dream, nurtured in a garage or basement
and grew to be traded on world renowned trade centers. Why not us? Why not our
dream? The only true limits we experience in life are those we create or those we
allow others to impose upon us. If we can dream it, we can do it!

Sometimes you may be the first person to have such kind of a dream but once
the dream is achieved it will be revolution of mankind. Therefore, while dreaming,
listen to your heart You will hear the echoing sound of heart that saying,
Drive your dreams into reality
Through imagination
Imagination where dreams are born
Convert every failure into victory
Through hardships
Hardships where the challenges come from
Be the beckon be the sailor
Steer your ship of dream
Dont give up and believe in you
Once in a while the miracles will happen..

Although, the time we spent never can
be bringing back, the moments in life can be
bring back as reminiscences and memoirs of
time. It will be perfect if they are shared with
the people who live in those memoirs. So ITS
US is the place that shares the memoirs that
are gathered by the UoM Leos.

The month of February was indeed
a splendid month of the Leo chapter with
the most exciting events. Some of them are
Beyond the Reach, Nidahas Sithuwili and
Dream. From all of them, Leo Youth Camp
2016 was the most thrilling and stirring event
which was experienced by most of the Leos.

It is a human right to be loved and to
be cared. But it is a gift if someone is truly
loved without any effort. UoM Leos have that
gift much lucky, because it is a good family
which gives the divining love and undivided
attention to each and every member.

Finally it gives me a great pleasure to
give my warmest gratitude to all who helped
us to achieve this level of success.
