SUNNI ARGUMENTS REGARDING HADITH AL HAUZ

1. Holy Prophet (in these ahadith) was not referring to the companions but was referring to the whole
ummah.
Answer:
Sahih Bukhari, no: 4259, 6097, 6090 and 6045.
The above four ahadith in Sahih al Bukhari say that the Prophet said my companions. Had he wanted
to refer it to the ummah, he would have used the word ummah and not my companions.
Also, the Holy Prophet said:
my companions in hadith no:______
men from you in hadith no:_____
you will come to me in hadith no:_____
I know them and they know me in hadith no:______
When I know them and I lived amongst them in hadith no:______
2. Those people were murtad (apostates) who left Islam after the death of Holy Prophet.
Answer:
This is a clear misconception since murtad were actually few people. The ahadith did not say few
people but used words like aqwaam (hadith no:___ ), rahat (hadith no:___), zumra (hadith no:
____). Also, the ahadith say that the survivors among them are very few. Thus, we see that 3 ahadith at
least say that a lot of people will be destined to Hell.
3. Those people referred to in the ahadith, are those that did not pay zakah.
Answer: This is not the case. The ahadith indicate the Prophet said that they will innovate (he used
the word ahdatu) in hadith no:____
Also, he said that they will change the religion after him (in hadith no:___ )
The above description does not befit those who did not pay zakah or al-khawarij. It actually perfectly
fits the companions who innovated in religion after the death of the Holy Prophet and a small number
of them will survive (according to hadith no: ___)

CONCLUSION
After studying the issue of companions, we can safely conclude and categorize them in 3 groups:
1st Category: This category of the companions is best amongst all. If companions of this category narrate
something, then one should immediately accept it since they are the ones whose narrations are
guaranteed.
This category comprises of only Ahlulbayt (a.s) who are infallible.
2nd Category: This category includes companions who can commit mistakes or forget etc. Thus they
are not infallible. We accept their narrations if it agrees with Ahlulbayt (a.s) or else we reject their
narrations.
Companions like Salman al Farsi, Abu Dhar, Ammar ibn Yasir etc. belong to this category of
companions.
3rd Category: This category includes companions who are deemed weak and unreliable and hence their
narrations are not accepted.
Companions like Abu Hurayrah, Umar ibn al Khattab etc. are examples of this category of companions.
