Michigan Curriculum Framework:
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.HSA.APR.B.3 Identify zeros of polynomials when suitable factorizations are available, and
use the zeros to construct a rough group of the functions defined by the polynomial.
Objective(s):
The students will calculate polynomial functions from previous lessons on their chapter quiz by being proficient within 5
sections.
(Taxonomy Level: Evaluation)
The students will identify polynomials with factoring and multiplying the two practice problems given after the research
of the website.
(Taxonomy Level: Understanding)
_____________________________________________________________________________________
Instructional Procedure: What information do students need to accomplish the objective(s)?
Time
Allotte
d
15 min.

Essential Element
1. Anticipatory Set:
The students will have the chance to review before the quiz with a beach ball that contains problems on it.
The student will catch the ball and wherever their right thumb lands, their table needs to work on it. I will
have the problem on the PowerPoint so that the whole class can see the problem and opt to do it if they need
more support. The students will talk through the steps of finding this process with the whole class and I will
step in if needed. Students will then be guided to their written notes in their math notebook for extra support
or discuss methods they may use before the quiz is given out.
2. State Purpose and Objective(s) of Lesson:
Today you will be putting what you have learned over the past week(s) to practice. I say practice because
there were still be room for improvement after this quiz. We will work together as a class on
problems tomorrow if needed. This quiz is important because I want to see the steps you are using to find
your answers. We will continue to build on this process and I want to have a check up to make sure
everyone is on the same page.
3. Plan for Instruction:
Students will be given the quiz after the beach ball activity and reviewing of notes. (Attached is the quiz

and beach ball questions)

During the quiz I will walk around and talk mental note of how students may need support.
Once students are done they will be guided to go to the following url:
http://www.mathisfun.com/algebra/special-binomial-products.html
Students will be given all time needed to complete the test and then we will review with the time left off of
the website.
We will go through the different special cases of (a + b)2, (a-b)2, and (a + b)(a-b) tomorrow but I want you
all to look at the website one more time. What do you notice from the information given? What do you find
weird, easy, hard, or something that you may not understand? I will write what everyone says on the board
to configure what I need to focus on and how much the website helped the students.
Tonight I want you to work on these two problems from the website. Take a screenshot of the page if internet
is not available at home.
Answer the two questions and then write underneath how you got there or at what step you are stumped. We
are going to take a poll together tomorrow and work on this concept/problems.
(3x-4)2 and (4y+2)(4y-2)
4. Differentiation Considerations (accommodations):
All students are expected to take the quiz but this is not the last time for the students to perform. These
quizzes will be available for the students to retake and work out the problems together.
Normal test accommodations will be given to students who have talked to me before the actual quiz. They
may move to a different desk, I can read the problem aloud to them, or they can externally process the
problems in a tape recorder.
If students notice with 15 minutes left of class they are not going to finish the test, we will circle the
problems they HAVE to get done before the bell rings. There are multiple problems for objectives, which
will help me to understand their proficiency levels on the steps.
Students who finish early will be guided to the website and I will advise them to take their own notes or try
the practice problems. This will help students with the process of self-teaching and also to have them be
aware of what is to come with the next lesson.
5. Assessment:
The students will be assessed through the quiz that covers the standards/objectives covered so far in this
unit. This quiz will allow me to collect tangible data of how the students are doing with the material.
Students will be given the chance to redo the test if they did not receive a proficient in each section. This
redo will be provided during lunch or before/after school.
The quiz rubric:
2pts for each problem with 1 point for work and 1 point for the correct answer.
Proficiency levels are provided on the worksheet after the quiz attached
6. Closure:
Before you leave, please write on a sticky-note your name and how the quiz went for you.
1=not very confident with my answers or work
3=confident with answers but not work
Thank you all for your hard work with this quiz.
Have a great day!

Directions for the Quiz

Read aloud to students before the assessment is given

Please place all materials under your desk and out of sight
Have a pencil at your desk
Remember to keep your eyes on your own paper
I will be walking around, so please ask me any questions that may come up
Do your best work
Remember to recopy the question, show your work, and box in your answer
You may do the questions in any order you please
Your work is worth one point and the correct answer is one point
There are multiple ways to show work with:
o Writing a sentence
o Showing algebraic work
o Drawing a picture
If you feel uncertain about a question, please circle the question number that you are uncertain on
o This will tell me how I can assist you in the best way with your learning and also where you are
with confidence with the knowledge you have
Is there any question before I release you to take the quiz?
