Firstofall,letmestartoutbymakingaboldstatement:NearlyallusersofHHOsystemsareusingtoomuch
HHO.
IfrequentlygetaskedabouthowmuchHHOwillyieldthebestmileagegainsforaparticularcarortruck.Years
ago,weusedthefollowingformula:1/4literperminuteforeachliterofenginesize.Forexample,ifyou
havea2literengine,youneed.5LPMofHHO.Inpracticethisisaprettygoodformulatouse,becausemost
peoplemeasureHHOusingballmetersorpopbottletest.Thesetestsarenotparticularlyaccurate,andtendto
readhigherflowratesthanactual.Sowiththisinmind,theformulawillworkprettywell.
WehavesincefoundthatthecorrectamountofHHOtouseiscloserto1/8ofaliterperminuteperliterof
enginesize.ButthemeasurementofHHOflowmustbemadewithmorepreciseequipmentcalibratedfor
HHO.WehaveaflowmeterfromAlicatScientific.Itcosts$1,500retail,andhasbeencalibratedforHHO
specifically(aswellasabout40othergasses).Itcompensatestheflowreadingfor72degreesFahrenheit,no
matterwhattheactualgastemperatureis.WhenwecomparethereadingsfromtheAlicat,toaballmeter,we
findthattheballmetershowsapproximatelydoubletheflowrateastheAlicat.Popbottletestingwillalsoshow
higherflowratesthanactual.
Nowwhileit'struethatsomecellsaremoreefficientthanothers,thedifferenceisn'treallyverymuch,despite
thewidedivergenceinreportsfromthemanufacturers.Inmostcases,thedifferenceisduetoinaccuraciesin
themeasurementprocess.Insomecases,manufacturerswillreportwildlyhighflowrates.Theyprobablyaren't
lyingaboutwhattheyreadontheirflowmeters.However,inthesecasesyouwillfindthattheyareoverdriving
theircellsandmakingveryhotoutputgasthatincludesalotofsteam.Justthefactofbeinghotwillfoolthe
flowmeter,andcandoublethe"flowrate".Butthisisn'tactuallymoreHHO.Itsjustahottergaswhich,because
itsexpanded,willshowanapparentlyhighervolume.Thatcoupledwiththesteammakesthegasmuchless
effectiveatimprovingmileagethananothercellproducing1/4ofthevolume,butmoreHHOperamp.Ifyou
can'tcomfortablyholdyouhandonyourcellafterithaswarmed,thenit'sasteamer.
So,giventhatthecellisn'tbeingoverdriven(wecallthesecells"steamers"),youcanactuallygetprettycloseto
thecorrectamountofHHObytheamountofampsyoudraw.Ifthecellisdrawingabout5amps,thatwillwork
ona1.5to1.8literengine.12ampswillworkfineona5Literengine,and15ampswillworkonlarger6and7
literengines.For15litersemitrucks,weuse1.251.5LPM,andwerunatabout25ampstogetit.
Inactualpracticeyoushouldtryadjustingyouramperagetoseewhichgivesyouthebestmileagegains.There
canbesomevarianceincellefficiency.ButyouwillfindthatthecorrectamountofHHOwillgiveyouthebest
gaininMPG,andthatmoreHHOwillstarttoreducethatmileage.AddmoreandmoreHHO,andyoucanend
upwithlowermileagethanwhenyoustarted.We'llexplainwhyfurtheroninthisarticle.
Asanothernote,somesuppliersgettheircellstestedandcertifiedbytheIHHOI(InternationalHHOInstitute).
Youcanusethe1/8thLPMformulawiththeseresults,becausetheyuseanAlicatScientificflowmeteras
describedaboveforalloftheirflowtesting.TheresultspostedbytheIHHOIpeoplearetheonlyonesI'veseen
thataren'tinflated.Nearlyallsuppliersfeeltheyhavetoshowinflatednumbersbecauseotherwisetheircell
"isn'tasgood"astheothersupplierswithinflatednumbers.Thewholeindustryiscurrentlyworkingonfalse
standardsofflowrateandefficiency.Butyoucanundercutthatin2ways:1)Dealwithsupplierswhoare
certifiedbytheIHHOI,or2)UseamperageasyourgaugeofhowmuchHHOtouse,providedthatthecell
doesn'trunhottothetouchafterrunningforawhile.

thattheelectricityusedtomaketheHHOisactually"freeenergy"sincetheengineisturninganyway.Bothof
thesestatementsarefalse,asIwilldescribebelow.

Firstletslookatthealternator.Whentheengineisrunningittransfersrotationalenergy,viaabelttothe
alternator,whichthengenerateselectricity.Thisenergyisactuallyameasurabledragontherotationalenergy
oftheengine,anditcostsfueltocounterthisdrag.Evenifyou'recoastingdownhill,thedistanceyouwillcoast
willbelessbeforeyouhavetoaddgasagaintomaintainyourspeed.Thebottomline?Theelectricalenergy
fromyouralternatorcostsyougastocreate.

energyinourpetroleumfueliswastedduetoincompletecombustionduringthepowerstroke.TheHHO
causessomeofthiswastetobeusedinthecombustionprocess.We'renotactuallygettingitallbackeither.
It'sjustthatthere'ssomuchwaste,thatevengettingpartofitrecoveredmakesalargechangeinourmileage.
ThisiswhatmakesHHOsovaluableinourengines.
However,onlysomuchHHOwillgiveusmoreefficiencyinthisway.IfyouaddmoreHHOafterthat,you'llthen
starttolosemileagebecauseoftheefficiencylossesdescribedabove.Now,asyouaddmoreandmoreHHO,
yourmileagegainswillstarttodwindleaway.Nowyou'llbedrawingmoreandmorehorsepowertomake
amperage,thanyougetbackwhentheHHOburns.Sinceyou'vealreadytappedthelatentpowerinthe

SincegoodaccuratemeasurementofHHOflowisnotavailabletotheaverageuser,wehaveprovidedan
alternatewaytoworkwiththisdata.Allthingsbeingequal,theHHOproductionisdirectlyproportionaltothe
amps.
WhatdoImeanby"allthingsbeingequal"?Thereareanumberoffactorsthathavetobetrueinorderforthe
chartbelowtobevalid.Firstofall,youhavetohaveacellthatissizedforthesizeofengineyouhave.For
instanceifyouhavea6"drycellwith7platesandtrytoputitona25literengine,youwillneedtooverdriveit
togettheampsyouneed.Youwillbemakingalotofsteam.Itwillbeinefficient.Thechartwillnotworkinthat
circumstance.Oranotherexample:Youbuildahomemadecellfromswitchplatecoversthatyoufoundonline,
andithas2neutralplatesandsomepartialshortingacrosstheplates.Thisisaninefficientcellandthechart
belowwillnotapply.Butgivenagoodreputabledrycellfromamanufacturerthatknowswhathe'sdoing,the
chartsbelowwillapply.Thesechartsworkforourcells,andmostgoodreputablecellmanufacturersmakea
cellthatiscomparable.
Thereforethischartcanbeusedtogetyourstartingampdraw.Usethisasastartingpoint.Testwithmore
amps.Testwithlessamps.Letitrunforawhilesoyourenginecancleanitselfout,andthentryagainwith
moreandlessamps.Runforafulltankwitheachsetting.Adjusttomaximizeyourfuelmileagegains.Over
timeyouwillfindtheidealamountofampsforyourengine,drivingconditionsanddrivinghabits.
