/NationalStandard:

3.15 The student will identify and draw representations of points, line segments, rays, angles, and lines.

MeasurableLessonObjective(s):

Students will be able to match descriptions to names of figures and represent lines and angles out of materials.
Materials/Technologies/ResourcesNeeded:
riddles taped up around the room
riddles answer sheet- 1 for each student
lines/angles worksheet (empty rectangles) - 1 for each student
pipe cleaners- several for each student
Assessment(Formativeand/orSummative):
1.

Students completed work will demonstrate their knowledge on figures, lines, angles. This will serve as a formative
assessment.

AnticipatorySet(Hook&Agenda)
Teacherwill:

Today we are going to keep practicing our

solid figures and lines! We have learned
about all types of figures and lines and we
got a lot of practice with them yesterday.

Students think back to yesterdays

activities and how they connected with
figures and lines.

on lines. This will get them thinking about

Students will watch the video and make

connections to what we have learned so far.
In the video, the characters connect lines to
real life objects/experiences.

Time:

The class will be divided into two groups.

Each group will spend 15 minutes at the
first station, then they will switch.
2 stations--

Station 1:
pipe cleaner activity

Students are given worksheet

including empty rectangles labeled:
line, line segment, parallel lines,
intersecting lines, perpendicular
lines, ray, acute angle, obtuse angle.
In each rectangle students will use
pipe cleaners to create each
line/angle and glue the pipe
cleaner in the correct rectangle

3D shape riddles will be placed

around the room. They are on
square labeled A-R
Students will have an answer sheet
Students will walk around from
question to question recording their

If students do not finish their pipe cleaner

activity we will work on this another time
during unfinished work/catch up time. I
will leave the riddles up in the room so
students can also work on those during
other times to finish.

Students will be using hands on materials to

create lines/angles. During this activity they
will be practicing recalling vocabulary terms
and making representations of lines/angles.

During this activity students have to read

descriptions of figures and determine which
figure matches each description. Students are
practicing identifying figures. They are
practicing identifying figures using terms:
faces, edges, vertices.

includes a word bank
so students can
remember shape names
and spell them
correctly.

Studentswill:

I will check in on student work. I will be

questions/completing activities correctly. If
students have wrong answers I will use a
marker to circle the problem to remind
myself of what they are struggling with.

Students will have a teacher check to

be sure they are completing work
correctly.
Students have a chance to correct their
mistakes and learn from them.
