INTRODUCTION
The impact strength describes the ability of a material to absorb shock and impact energy
without breaking. The impact strength is calculated as the ratio of impact absorption to test
specimen cross-section.

PROCEDURES

4.
5.

The setting of the backing-up was checked.

The specimen of the soft-annealed steel was put into the backing-up.
The hammer tup was lifted until engagement of the stop.
Both buttons was pushed together to release the hammer.
The impact energy consumed at the digital display was read and the value in the
table was filled in.
6. The operations 1. to 5. was carried out with other specimen.

RESULTS
a)Cross-section of the all specimens in the notch-bottom.

Fine Steel
= Used as cutting tool.
Aluminium
= Used in Construction of parts of windows, doors, siding, building wire, etc
Copper
= Used in electrical generators and motors, for electrical wiring, and in electronic
goods, such as radio and TV sets.

CONCLUSION
Impact strength, is the capability of the material to withstand a suddenly applied load and is
expressed in terms of energy.
