7.1 Name and describe the characteristics of the four seasons.
I. Performance Objectives (Learning Outcomes)
A. First graders will apply their knowledge by sorting different items on a season work sheet
related to the season differences.
B. First graders will understand how different seasons differ by collaborating together in
creating a collage of pictures according to the seasons.
II. Instructional Materials
A. 6 Glue sticks per table
B. 4 sheets of poster board paper
C. pictures, magazines, catalogs
D. Set of markers per table
E. 6 pairs of scissors per table
F. Access to YouTube video-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ZjpI6fgYSY&feature=youtu.be
G. Weather Worksheet
H. Seasonal objects such as clothing, toys, etc.

III. Subject Matter/ Content (prerequisite skills, key vocabulary, big idea)
A. Prerequisites Skills:
1. Basic understanding of the four seasons
2. Basic skills with cooperative conversation groups
B. Key Vocabulary:
1. Seasons-each of the four divisions of the year (spring, summer, autumn, and winter)
C. Big Idea:
1. Weather changes throughout the year according to the season which effects different
aspects in our daily lives.
D. New Content:
1. As the seasons changes so does the weather
a. This effects how we dress and what activity we do outside.
IV. Implementation
A. Introduction
1. Show YouTube video of seasons Song
(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ZjpI6fgYSY&fe)
2. Ask students what are some difference from season to season from the video?
3. Discuss aspects of the four seasons. Explain some aspects about the seasons that were
not mentioned in the video. See Chart.
B. Development
1. Teacher will present information by showing pictures and objects of different
characteristics of the seasons.

Divide students into four groups of six and have them sit together to their own station
Handout poster paper and markers to each group
Provide each group with a season and explain to the students that they have to write it
on the top of the poster
Explain that they need to work together as a group and find pictures/ words in the
magazines that represent their season and glue them on the poster
Provide an example of each of the four seasons as a guide for students
Ask if anyone has any questions
Handout supplies such as glue sticks, scissors and magazines
Walk around the room and observe the children as they work together
Make sure they are putting appropriate picture/text on their posters
Take notes of children that do not work together well
After students finish their assignment as a group, they will be put up on the board for
discussion
Tell students to discuss with their group members about the different pictures they
chose for the season.
Ask the students why they chose certain pictures on their season chart.
Discuss difference between the seasons as a whole class

C. Closure
1. Watch season video at the end of class to get the students to remember certain season
facts refer back to chart.
D. Accommodations / Differentiation 1. Steve have visual impairment, he will be provided with visual pictures that are large
enough to see. The assessment worksheet will be provided with large print and pictures
for him. Steve will also be put in front of the class for class discussions. If the students
think it is do hard they will write a short sentence that goes under the letters in their
ABC book. For the children that cannot use scissors, there will pictures already cut out
for him to choose from.

E. Assessment/Evaluation plan
1. Formative- The collage will be evaluated on a rating scale (shown below) where a score of
4-5 will be considered mastery.
1- Messy collage, there is only 1-2 pictures on the poster and does not relate to
season.
2- Somewhat messy collage, provides only 2-3 pictures, most pictures fit the season
they were assigned.
3- Collage is neat but only has 3-4 pictures that relate to their season
4- Collage is neat and provides 5-6 pictures that represent their season
5- Collage is neat and provides 6+ pictures that represent their season
2. Summative- There is no summative assessment for this lesson
