Student Final Summary with Strategies for Continued Growth

For the final self-reflection, I believe I could obtain some competencies such as communication skills with group members. I feel confident in group
discussion and have respects to all of my peers. For example, I can show my collaborative skills while playing role with my peers to determine how to
develop skills in order to perform the checklists. Besides, I think Im good at math which is considered a benefit for my pharmacology course and my
nursing career later. On the other hand, I still have some improvement areas. First, I need to improve my terminology vocabulary which is very
important for being a nurse in documenting. For example, I need to know more words like dyspnea (shortness of breath), hemoptysis (cough up
blood), cyanosis (bluish color), orthopnea (difficult breathing in supine position) and still. I need to create a list of these words in a portable notebook,
so that I can carry with me and review anytime or anywhere. My goal is to enhance the terminology vocabulary about 40 words a month which is 10
words a week by retrieving words from the Jarvis as well as the Mosbys dictionary. Also, I need to have more practice to perform some steps from
physical examination. Specially, I need to learn how to percuss and auscultate in a right way. The reason is because the result from these methods
can tell if the patient are in a good condition or not. Specifically, I have to distinguish what is normal sounds for which location from what is
adventitious sounds (abnormal sound such as crackle or wheeze) from the lungs while auscultating. For example, one of the sound bronchial which is
a high pitch, harsh and hollow sound, is normally located at trachea and larynx. For this reason, I have to set a goal to practice more with peers as
well as using several websites to help me distinguish the difference of these sounds. My plan is to improve this skill within a month, every week I will
save time to practice with friends so that I have more experience in performing the skills professionally in a timely manner. In conclusion, I have to be
consistent with my goals so that I have more confidence and knowledge to become a skillful nurse in future.

Teacher Final Summary with Strategies for Continued Growth

Congratulations on your learning this semester. You have achieved basic skills in patient safety, using proper body mechanics when moving a patient
, giving a bed bath, and performing a set of vital signs and systems assessment. You will use all these skills in your next clinical setting and will be
glad that you feel confident in these areas before you start in January. Your strategy to practice with family and friends, attend the open access labs
and review your textbook will help you gain confidence and proficiency. Reviewing, reflecting and documenting on what you have done is also a good
strategy for learning and improving your confidence in these areas. Thank you for your contributions to group case studies and maintaining a quality
learning environment by making up interesting symptoms for your peers to assess. Continue to work on your documentation and communication skills
by understanding what are significant/abnormal findings, understanding subjective and objective findings, and using SBAR to communicate with
members of the health care team. As you learn more about developing care plans and case studies, look for specific health teaching strategies that
are related to your patient's conditions.
