3.YouhavedownloadedtheAlias/Wavefrontfacetfilemembrane.obj.
ImporttheFaceted(.obj)FileintoCaedium
SelecttheFileToolbarandclicktheImportbutton
.SelectGeometryasthefiletypeandnavigatetothelocationofthemembrane.objfile
youdownloaded.Doubleclickonmembrane.objtoimportthemembraneintoCaedium.
Toseetheoutline(edges),rotate(leftclickanddragthemouse)andzoom(rotatethemousewheel)theviewintheViewWindowuntilthe
membraneisintheapproximateorientationshownbelow.
Shadethefacetoconfirmitwasimportedcorrectly.RightclickontheViewWindow(view)background,doubleclicksim>Faces,andthen
selectPropertiesfromthemenu.InthePropertiesPanel,turnofftheTransparentpropertytomakethefacevisible(shaded).
IntheHomeToolbarclicktheUndobutton
torestoretheviewtoonlyedges.
CreateAxes
IntheGeometryToolPalette,selecttheOthers>Axestool.Draganddropitontothelargermembraneedge(edge)intheViewWindow(view).
DoubleclickedgeintheSelectdialogandselectDonetocreateaxes(axes)atthecenteroftheedge.
CreateaCylinderusingAxes
SelecttheVolumes>Cylindertool.InthePropertiesPanel,settheRadiusto30andsettheZHeightto20.PressEnteronthekeyboardto
applythechangestothePropertiesPanel.
Wewantanouterboundaryfortheflowvolumethatliesbeyondtheinfluenceoftheairflowaroundthemembrane,sowesetadiameterof30m,
whichis6xthemembranediameter,andaheightof20m,whichisabout6xtheheightofthemembrane.
DraganddroptheVolumes>Cylindertoolontotheaxes(axes)intheViewWindow(view).SelectDonetocreateacylinder(volume).Inthe
HomeToolbarclicktheFitAllbutton
toseethecylinderintheViewWindow.
TranslatetheCylinder
Totranslatethecylinder(volume)toanewlocationintheViewWindow,selecttheTransforms>Translatetool.InthePropertiesPanelset
Translateto[001].
DragtheTransforms>TranslatetoolanddropitdirectlyontoanedgeofthecylinderintheViewWindow.SelectDonetotranslatethecylinder.
Thisoperationpositionsthebase(ground)ofthecylinder1mbelowthebaseofthemembrane.
SubtracttheMembranefromtheCylinder
SelecttheBooleans>Subtracttool.InthePropertiesPanelturnontheTopologyOnlyproperty.
DraganddroptheBooleans>Subtracttooldirectlyontoanedgeofthecylinder.DoubleclickvolumeintheSelectdialogtoselectthecylinder.
SelectSelect/Deselectfromthemenu,rightclickonaedgeofthemembrane(membrane),andthendoubleclickmembraneintheSelect
dialogtoselectthemembrane.SelectDonetosubtractthemembranefromthecylinderandcreatethevolume(volume_1).
ATopologyOnlyoperationrelatesonlytothewaygeometryisassociatedorconnected,itdoesnotchangetheshapeofthegeometry.Inthis
operationtheTopologyOnlyoptionallowsthecreationofanonmanifoldtopology.
CreateaDoubleSidedMembrane
DraganddroptheFaces>2Sidedtooldirectlyontoanedgeofthemembrane.Doubleclickface_6(previouslymembrane)intheSelectdialog
toselectthemembrane.SelectDonetoconvertthemembraneintoadoublesidedface.Anewvolume(volume_2)thatincludesanewface
(face_6shadow)willreplacetheoriginalvolume(volume_1).
Onlyfacesembeddedinavolumecanbeconvertedtodoublesidedfaces.Alsothedoublesidedconversionmustbethelastconstruction
operationyouperformonthevolume.
