Specify what you will do to promote relevance/interest in this lesson:
Students will choose their own chosen cities for the culminating research project we will begin.
Learning Activity One: Basic Data Entry: Assignment 8: Weather Research
1.Teacher Actions/Instructions/Tasks
a. What information must students know to get started? Students must know the expectations I have
for them in regards to completing this assignment. Student will need to have an understanding of
how to navigate within a spreadsheet. From there the students will need to understand how to input
data into a spreadsheet.
b. Detail teacher actions/instructions to prepare students for success with this activity: Instructional
PowerPoint, review from last class, and teaching by facilitating any questions, comments, or
concerns that student may have regarding the assignment
Detailed Instructions:
1)
Using the weather network website above, chose 5 different Canadian cities. You much chose 5 cities from
2)
Next, you will input the temperatures from 5 consecutive days into an excel spreadsheet. Organize your
data clearly so that I am able to tell which city, date, and temperature each cell is recording.
3)
Make sure to label your columns and rows with appropriate headings. Change the font size and colour of
your headings so that they are different from the data collection itself. Underline the row that contains your
column headings.
4)
Format your heading cells for text wrapping and centre the cell content within the cell.
5)
Give your data set a title (ex. Canadian Temperatures for the Month of March). Merge and centre your title
above your data.
6)
Save your workbook to your student drive as Spreadsheet Assignment 8 and then upload it to Moodle for
grading.
c. 1-5 bullet items go a long way here to clarify what students need to know to complete this activity:
Students need to know how to merge and center the data within a cell
Students need to know how to wrap the text within the cell

How did you guys find using the student tutorials to gain your knowledge, skills, and understandings
that set you up for success on this portion of the assignment?
Lesson
Reflection
What worked well? Why?
What didn't? Why not?
What will you do differently
next time to achieve a
better result?
Students seemed to be more motivated to work within the created student tutorials uploaded
to Moodle
This lesson went a lot better than having just myself up at the front lecturing
Students came to me with questions only when needed
They felt independence and felt capable to succeed on the next portion of the assignment
The only thing that I would monitor as a teacher is trying to keep student all somewhat on the
same tutorials without leaving too many student feeling like they cant continue on with their
learning
Finding it difficult in these CTS courses to keep everyone around the same progress.
