Greer, William. "Avicenna - The Innovation In Healthcare!." Avicenna (2220-2749) 2013.

(2013): 1-3. Academic Search Complete. Web. 8 Feb. 2016.

Greers article presents his views on the importance of innovation in healthcare services.
A practical view would assert that innovation should result in the generation of more (or
better) outcomes from less effort. Greer also talks about the research that goes
alongside the innovation, and he suggests that all innovation in healthcare must be
associated with appropriate, targeted and successful research efforts.
Although there are not many innovation examples, I can still utilize the ideas in this
journal to help me explain the innovations in healthcare.
Hanna, Kathi E., and (U.S.) Institute of Medicine. Innovation And Invention In Medical
Devices : Workshop Summary. Washington, D.C.: National Academies Press, 2001. eBook
Collection (EBSCOhost). Web. 10 Feb. 2016.
In Hannas workshop summary, she creates an objective to present the challenges and
opportunities for medical devices being used in the healthcare field. The goal was to
examine the innovations in healthcare, and to examine the social and economic
infrastructure associated with the innovations. Hanna also discusses the clinical needs
with an understanding of what would be needed to meet the needs.
I do not necessarily value this workshop summary as an effective keystone in my paper
because it is certainly out of date. Because the summary was written fifteen years ago, it
was generally asking questions to problems that are now solved because technology
tends to update itself every three to five years.
Hasman, Arie, and J. Mantas. Informatics, Management And Technology In Healthcare.
Amsterdam: IOS Press, 2013. eBook Collection (EBSCOhost). Web. 12 Feb. 2016.
According to Hasman, biomedical information is becoming increasingly more important
as healthcare organizations worldwide implement the biomedical information. The book
examines research and apply outcomes in multiple fields.
This is probably the weakest source that I have for my essay. Even though it talks about
biomedical information and the innovations in that field, it doesnt help me talk about
technology in the medical field.
Hsieh, Chee-Ruey, Ya-Ming Liu, and Chia-Lin Chang. "Endogenous Technological
Change In Medicine And Its Impact On Healthcare Costs: Evidence From The Pharmaceutical
Market In Taiwan." European Journal Of Health Economics 14.2 (2013): 287-295. EconLit with
Full Text. Web. 8 Feb. 2016.

In Endogenous Technological Change in Medicine and Its Impact on Healthcare Costs:

Evidence from the Pharmaceutical Market in Taiwan, the authors of the journal conduct
an experiment to begin to tie the rising costs of health care to the technological changes
that are happening. The technological change in medicine has been recognized widely
as the major driver of rising healthcare costs even though there is very little research to
draw factual conclusions.
I plan on using this scholarly journal to be a major point on the negative aspect of
innovative technological advancements in the paper. I follow closely with the general
understanding of costs being related to technology because as the technology
innovates, it is widely understood that the costs of the advancements will lead to higher
patient medical bills.
Laal, Marjan. "Innovation And Medicine." Procedia Technology 1.First World Conference
on Innovation and Computer Sciences (INSODE 2011) (2012): 469-473. ScienceDirect. Web. 8
Feb. 2016.
In Laals article, Innovation And Medicine, he discusses the importance of the medical
fields necessary rebuilding using adjectives such as chaotic, inefficient, and ineffective.
In the next couple of years, medical technology and its innovations will essentially
change the health care delivery system because the technological innovations are on
the rise.
This article attempts to depict how innovation in the medical field can be considered
revolutionary in healthcare to extend the lives of people.
I personally argue that this article could pose as a good introduction to the essay
because it successfully states that the medical field is being innovated with new
technologies and technological advancements.
Latest health technology on show. Associated Press, 2009. Associated Press Video
Collection. Web. Feb 12 2016.
In the Associated Press video, we took a tour of a convention of technology innovations
that are focused for healthcare and the medical field. Whether its something that
benefits your everyday health like the Wii gaming system, which promotes physical
activity while playing games, or its a piece of surgical equipment that stabilizes hand
movements and magnifies the area.
The video shows fantastic examples of modern technology currently being used in
healthcare. It also depicts technology that the future may hold for us.
McGrath, Michael, Ph.D., and Cliodhna N Scanaill. Sensor Technologies. [Electronic
Resource] : Healthcare, Wellness, And Environmental Applications. n.p.: [New York] :

ApressOpen : Distributed to the book trade worldwide by Springer Science+Business Media,

c2014., 2014. Old Dominion University Catalog. Web. 8 Feb. 2016.
McGrath and Scanaills book provides an extensive overview of sensor technologies and
their applications in healthcare. From sensor hardware to system applications and case
studies, the book provides an in-depth understanding of the technologies and their
applications.
The book will easily be able to help me give examples of technological innovations in the
medical field, and how they can benefit patients to increase efficiency.
Richins, Suzanne Moss. Emerging Technologies In Healthcare. [Electronic Resource].
n.p.: Hoboken : CRC Press, 2015., 2015. Old Dominion University Catalog. Web. 8 Feb. 2016.
In Richins Emerging Technologies in Healthcare, she talks about the recent healthcare
changes commanded by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act are compelling
suppliers to concentrate on innovation as an approach to enhance the strength of the
population. One method is using mobile health (mhealth) technology to monitor patients
in real time and to have the ability to access the patients records.
The book shows a valid example of a technological advancement in the medical field,
and I can use the information in my writing to help get my point across favoring the
advancements in healthcare.
Thimbleby, Harold. "Technology And The Future Of Healthcare." Journal Of Public
Health Research 2.3 (2013): 160-167. Academic Search Complete. Web. 8 Feb. 2016.
In Thimblebys article, he emphasises the point that healthcare changes dramatically
because of technological developments, from bionic prosthetics to magnetic resonance
imaging scanners (MRIs) and radiotherapy. Future technological innovations are going
to continue transforming healthcare.
I enjoy this article and I have a pretty good understanding of what I am going to use the
contents and ideas for in my essay. I plan on using the information when explaining the
certain types of technological innovations.
Yeow, Adrian, and Kim Huat Goh. "Work Harder Or Work Smarter? Information
Technology And Resource Allocation In Healthcare Processes." MIS Quarterly 39.4 (2015): 763785. Computers & Applied Sciences Complete. Web. 8 Feb. 2016.
In Yeow and Huat Gohs article, the two conduct an experiment to evaluate the efficiency
of the healthcare process through reallocation of resources. An assessment was created
whether gains in allocative efficiency brought improved results in organizational

outcomes such as less expensive hospitalization and lower average wait time for
patients.
The article really asks an important question that arises when discussing technology in
healthcare. The article discusses utilizing efficiency in the workplace to provide lower
hospital rates for the patients. If we can utilize the technology to establish a more
efficient method to treat patients, then we are ultimately using technology to benefit the
medical field.
