Problem Based Learning Assignment

Due at the end of Course 2


Complete the section on Questioning for a unit you will teach next year before
beginning your PBL planning. The Wheel of Reasoning assignment helps you set the
stage to guide the questioning and PBL process.
Examine all provided and required resources, including the provided examples of
actual PBL lessons are in the module. You may want to do additional research for
samples related to your specific course curriculum requirements.
Complete the Problem Based Learning Guide Template provided to assist the
design of your lesson; use the Standards and Checklist provided. This template will be
a springboard activity to help drive your lesson. This should be a lesson created for
the next school year; implementation is not required, but highly
recommended.
Design a Problem Based Learning plan grounded in unit explored in your
Wheel of Reasoning.
In your PBL plan, students will
use high-level questioning skills to determine and analyze the problem;
use advanced research skills to investigate and examine multiple aspects of the
problem;
use creativity and collaboration to brainstorm, research, and plan potential
solutions to the problem;
use 21st century skills and innovations to propose a viable solution to the problem;
learn to give and receive appropriate feedback in order to revise the end product;
and
present their proposals in an appropriate manner to their targeted audience.
Complete the Evaluation Checklist portion of the chart on the first draft of your PBL.
Use this to thoroughly reflect on the strengths and possible weaknesses in the lessons
design and implementation plan. Work with your gifted mentor, or with a school or
course teammate, to complete this evaluation. This activity will provide you a different
set of eyes to troubleshoot potential issues before implementation.
Write notes on the feedback received. Revise your first draft using the
feedback provided.
Present your PBL plan and Evaluation reflections in grade level groups (Elementary,
Middle, and High) during the FINAL Course 2 face to face meeting, You may select your
mode of multimedia presentation (Google Slides, PowerPoint, Prezi, story boards, video,
wiki, etc.) for this presentation.
Complete the Problem Based Learning Rubric as a final evaluation of each presented
PBL lesson.
To summarize:

Step #1: Complete the Questioning Makes a Difference Section and the Wheel of
Reasoning assignment.
Step #2: Read and analyze ALL Assigned Resources provided.
Step #3 Complete the Problem Based Learning Guide Template.
Step #4: Complete the PBL Plan Template using the provided Standards and
Checklist.
Step #5: Complete the Evaluation Checklist with your mentor or peer to thoroughly
reflect on the strengths and weaknesses in the lessons design and implementation plan
(Evaluation portion of the chart).
Step #6: Revise your PBL plan using the notes from your evaluation checklist.
Step #7 Create a multimedia presentation to be shared with your peers at the
FINAL face to face meeting for Course 2. The Problem Based Learning Rubric
provided will be utilized by your peers to evaluate your PBL presentation/lesson.
Step #8: Post your PBL Plan Template, Evaluation Checklist, & PBL Multimedia
Presentation (if digital) on BlackBoard for evaluation.
