CHARACTER & LEADERSHIP RETREAT for 7th & 8th

GRADE STUDENTS
FEBRUARY 12, 2015

from 10am until 2pm, at Minnesota Transitions

Special Keynote address
from Bolder Options, Darrell
Thompson
The function of education is to teach one to think intensively
and to think critically. Intelligence plus
character - that is the goal of true education.
Martin Luther King, Jr.

Dear Principal,
One of the most important attributes a student can develop to succeed in school, work and life is good
character. In order to help prepare the Class of 2019 for their important work ahead, the General Colin L.
Powell Leadership Academy is hosting a thought provoking and motivational Character & Leadership
Development Seminar on February 12, from 10 AM until 2 PM, for your 8th Graders. There is no charge for this
event and lunch will be provided.
Why are we doing this? We believe that teaching character and leader development are invaluable skills that
improve a students chance at success in life. Students with well defined values and a strong sense of integrity
will get better grades, are more likely to graduate, attend college and have a greater sense of purpose and well
being.
The day will kick off with a brief and uplifting keynote address from Darrell Thompson of Bolder Options,
followed by small group activities to help students develop character, leadership, teamwork and collaboration
skills.
