Class Expectations
1. Respect
Have respect for yourself, the teacher, and your peers.
Respect the property of others, which means if its not yours you probably should avoid
touching whatever it is.
Inappropriate language is not being respectful to you or anyone else, so avoid it.
Have respect for the learning environment, which means to keep classroom clean.
Be kind to others.
2. Effort
Do the best work you can.
Focus on the quality of your work.
3. Prepared for class each day
Being prepared for class means bringing the proper materials:
- Pencils, pens, paper
- Class binder to carry class related handouts and work
- Highlighters for analyzing literature.
4. Follow directions
When given directions by the instructor, do your best to follow them the first time. If
questions arise from confusion, ask for clarification.
5. Pay attention, participate and ask questions
Paying attention to what is being taught in the class will reduce confusion for work that
will be completed. If you have a question, make sure to ask it. Participate in this class,
because you are part of what makes it what it is.
6. Take responsibility for your actions
When you have a missing assignment, take responsibility for this choice you made rather
than lie about it. Lying is a form of disrespect, so be honest!
School Rules
1. For the schools rules, please refer to the school handbook for a list of the school rules and
policies. All school rules located in this handbook will apply to this classroom as well.

Classroom Rules
1. Put away cell phones and other electronic devices (unless told otherwise by instructor)
Cell phones should be kept on silent and be out of sight during the class period. If there
is an emergency call being expected please inform the instructor for further instruction.
Unless told differently by the instructor, all electronic devices are required to be put
away. This is a sign of respect for the teacher and peers.
2. Water, yes. Other stuff, no.
Bottled water is all that is allowed in the classroom. If a spill happens, take responsibility
and clean it up.
3. Be on time and ready to learn
My job is to teach, your job is to learn, so come to class ready to go.
When the bell rings you should be ready in your seat.
If you come to class before the bell rings being working on bell work. If you want to talk
with friends before the bell rings keep it outside of class.
4. The bell is not all knowing
The bell determines when class is completed, but that does not mean it dismisses the
class. Class will be dismissed once students are told to Have a nice day. If a student
stands before being asked to leave, the class will stay seated until instructed that is it okay
to leave the classroom.
5. Do not cheat, plagiarize, or copy work
Cheating in any way will not be accepted in this classroom. Any form of cheating will
result in a zero and will also be reported to the vice-principle and your parents.
6. Put full effort into your work and make sure it is completed on time
The work you do in this class is a reflection of yourself, so show how impressive you can
be with your work and turn it in on time.
Classroom Procedures
1. Turn in homework at the beginning of class in the proper bin.
Homework will be due at the start of class, which means when the bell rings. All work
will be turned into your period bin near the instructors desk. Any work that is turned in
after the start of class will be considered late and should be placed in the late bin. Do not
try to sneak your homework into the regular bin if you know it is late, the instructor keeps
track of this.
2. Check your periods absent been when missing days.
Any work that you missed will be located in your period absent bin. Any notes that were
taken on your missed day will be posted on the class Edmodo page for quick access. If
there is any confusion on the work missed please speak with instructor for further
guidance.

3. Ask instructor if it is okay to use the restroom and use coupon

At the beginning of the year you will have a total of 5 coupons that can be used to use the
restroom; this will also still require asking the instructor for permission. The restroom
should be used during the transition of class periods, so do your best to make that happen
before class begins. At the end of the term, any extra coupons saved will earn the student
extra credit, so the more coupons the more potential points!

4. Use Late Coupons during times of need

The instructor understands there are busy times, so just as there are 5 coupons for the
restroom (explained above), there are also 5 coupons for late work. If you have late work
that you would like to turn in for full points, instead of being docked points due to being
turned in late, you can use 1 of these coupons to make it happen. Keep in mind that a late
coupon will only work for homework that is up to a week late, and does not include
major projects or essays.
5. Follow the classroom routine from the moment you walk through the doors
The classroom routine is as follows:
- When you walk through the door, sit in assigned seat, take out required materials and
begin on the bell work that will be located at the front of the classroom. Even if the
bell has not yet tolled, the moment you walk into class is the moment you begin the
work. Once you complete the bell work, be courteous to those who have not yet
completed by remaining quiet until further instruction by the instructor.
- Listen to the classroom objectives the instructor gives for the day. Remain silent and
listen while the instructor is talking. If there is a time where you are able to speak
with peers, the instructor will inform you. If you have any questions regarding the
class material feel free to raise your hand and wait to be called on by the instructor.
- If the instructor allows group work during the course of the day be polite to group
members and focus on the classroom task. Keep conversations on the class subject
being discussed and when complete with discussion raise your hands so that
instructor is informed.
- Remember that class is not done until the bell rings, so make sure you are paying
attention to the instructor to the final second and make sure your area is cleaned
before you leave for the day.
Class Consequences
1. Any student that goes against the school rules, classroom rules, or classroom procedures risks
going through the classroom consequences. These consequences are as follows:
Verbal warning
- Instructor will inform the student what they are doing wrong to cause a disruption and
politely ask them to stop. 3 strikes and youre out to the next consequence, meaning
if instructor has to inform student 3 times they will move to the next consequence
immediately.

Call home
- Instructor will call the home of the student and speak to the parents regarding their
behavior in the classroom. If student continues to cause problems at being told their
parents will have a phone call that will lead to the next consequence.
Detention
- Student will be given detention. Detention will either consist of the school detention
or classroom detention; the instructor will be the one to choose the course of action.
Students who continue to cause problems after being told they have reached this
consequence will move on to the next one.
Referral to assistant principal (final consequence)
- Student will be referred to the assistant principle, who will be deciding what the next
best course of action shall be for the student. Keep in mind that reaching a
consequence that is beyond the first does not eliminate the consequences before, but
includes all consequences before it.

follows:

in regards to grading please feel free to ask the instructor.
3. Homework and tests will be given back within a week of completion, while essays that are
completed may take up to 2 weeks.

stand throughout the year. Each student will be given a final grade based off what they earned,
respecting that they are in charge of their own performance.

Class Edmodo Page

1. Each class will have their own individual online classroom they will be able to access on the
Edmodo that the instructor creates. All students will be given a link that will lead them to the
correct classroom. Edmodo will allow students who are confused to go back and look at past
material in order to better understand what is causing confusion. This will also be a useful tool
for students who are sick and must miss a day of class, allowing them to see any important
material they may have missed.
Parent Information and Parent Edmodo Page
1. Parents will also be given a link to access a separate Edmodo page that will be designed
specifically for parents to better understand what is going on in the classroom. This will allow
parents to contact the instructor if they have any concerns and also keep track of the projects and
big assignments that are expected to be due by a certain date. If interested in joining this
Edmodo page, please leave e-mail at signature section and a link will be sent within the first 2
weeks of class that will be required to access the page.
If at any time a parent feels they have any questions they would like to address regarding their
child, please feel free to contact me via e-mail or directly on the Edmodo page. Both methods
will work in contacting the instructor as soon as possible, as he will be checking both 3 to 5
times daily. The e-mail to contact the instructor is rortega4@asu.edu. I will be more than happy
to schedule an in-person appointment if need be as well.
Signatures
The following signatures, by parents and students, will agree that all information in regards to
the way this classroom will work has been read and understood. This will inform the instructor
that there is no confusion as to the way the classroom will be organized, the school rules,
classroom rules, classroom procedures, class consequences, grading, and the best way to contact
the instructor. If either the parents or student are confused with any of the information given,
please feel free to contact the instructor for clarification before signing. Thank you, and lets all
have a wonderful term!
