Energy in the context of science is focused on two types of energy, potential and kinetic. Students will discover, interact, and formulate theories on why and how energy works the way it does. The post assessment will be in conjuncture with lesson 5. Students will apply their knowledge of kinetic and potential energy to the task at hand.

My unit plan is energy in the context of science. It is more focused on
two types of energy, potential and kinetic. Students will learn about the conversion of energy between different forms. Students will discover, interact, and formulate theories on why and how energy works the way it does. The unit plan does not run on a lecture style format. Rather, a guided discovery format will be used. This is to have students get hands on experience with the content. The students will have more responsibility on them to take control of their own learning and have the initiative to complete the tasks. By recording their findings on worksheets and comparing their results to other students, the students are assessing themselves. The pre assessment will be during large group discussion at the beginning of the lesson. The teacher should record some of the responses in his/her mind. Another pre assessment is after lesson 1, have the students write in their journals what they think about the subject matter and what would they like to learn. The in between assessments will be reading the responses on their worksheets/write everything notebooks. The teacher will need to be checking these for progress and if a topic needs to be reviewed before moving on to the next lesson.
Mid unit assessment will be a pencil and paper test as well as a
demonstration. The questions will be a summative assessment over everything that the student has learned in the unit so far plus an application question. The post assessment will be in conjuncture with lesson 5. Students will apply their knowledge of kinetic and potential energy to the task at hand. There will be written answers for the grader to assess as well as working with their fellow peers.
