Dear Nurse Recruiter,
I am interested in applying for the new graduate Registered Nurse medical-surgical position at Inova
Health System. In May, I will be graduating from Shenandoah University with a Bachelor of Science
in Nursing. The knowledge I have gained through a variety of clinical experiences, as well as my
classroom education, has provided me with the tools to begin my career as a nurse.
As a student, I developed my nursing skills by working in a variety of hospital and community health
care environments. Guided by my instructors, I performed patient assessments, administered
medications, provided patient teaching, and developed a plan of care for each patient and their
families. Most recently, I completed my senior preceptorship at Inova Fair Oaks, where I
transitioned into an independent nurse. Observing the excellent, individualized patient care the
nurses provided made me want to be a part of the Inova Health System.
In addition to nursing skills, I have developed strong communication, leadership, and organizational
skills. I work as a tutor and lead individual and group sessions for nursing students at Shenandoah
University in pathophysiology and medical-surgical courses. I am also a member of the Student
Nurses Association at Shenandoah University and assist with organizing a variety of fundraising and
educational activities to serve the community. These leadership positions have taught me to balance
a demanding schedule, as well as given me the opportunity to serve and care for others.
