off the theories of classical and operant conditioning. The

idea of behavioral therapy is to focus on the undesirable
action or stimuli of an individual and replace it with a more
acceptable behavior, while enforcing positive and negative
consequences. This type of therapy also helps the
individual understand their bad behavior and why it
undesired. There are many different types of behavioral
therapies. Some of these include:

Cognitive behavioral therapy: CBT is used to

change a persons unhealthy behavior by focusing on their
thoughts, beliefs and emotions. By seeing how they
influence the persons life they can aim to change their
unhealthy behavior patterns.

Dialectical behavior therapy: During this therapy

the therapist assures the patient that his/her behaviors
are valid and understandable while at the same time the
therapist is teaching the patient that they need to take
responsibility for their unhealthy behavior and change it.
The therapist teaches the skills needed to better deal with

medication.
