Describe the context in which these artifacts were collected and identify the standard and
competency(s) the artifact represents.
This artifact comes from my practicum and some professional development I was able to attend
regarding brief FBAs and how a counselor can use this behavior strategy to help teachers with
classroom management when they have a difficult student in their class. My challenge is I am not
a classroom teacher so I do not have the effective classroom management strategies that I
wouldve obtain if I was a teacher.
What do they demonstrate to you about your learning and mastery of the competencies
which fall under this standard?
This artifact demonstrates my knowledge to consult with teachers and parents about effective
behavior management in the classroom setting and gives me a tool in which to guide those
interventions. Until I am competent in classroom management styles I will have to rely on
teacher input and expertise for this part of the brief FBA, although I think this is something I will
always do because they are the experts.
What do these items of evidence tell you about your overall progress toward your personal
goals and your growth as a professional school counselor?
While learning about brief FBAs I was able to sit in several classrooms to monitor student
behaviors. This gave me an opportunity to observe different classroom management styles and
apply them to how difficult students react in different environments. I could then take this
knowledge when filling out the forms to communicate with parents and teachers about possible
behavior management strategies
.

What are your plans for additional growth or improvement in this area?
My plans for additional growth in classroom management is to observe more classrooms settings
with teachers identified as having good classroom management. In my middle school I currently
work at we have several teachers who have low behavior issues or referrals in their rooms and
these are the teachers I will target when looking to observe classrooms. In addition we have
more professional development in FBAs which only continue to strengthen my knowledge in
behavioral management strategies.
