Lesson Topic: Taking Care of My Hearing Aids

Essential Questions

How do you take care of your hearing aid?


Why do you need to know how to do take care of your hearing aid?
What do I do when my hearing aids are not working?

Learner Outcomes (Instructional Objectives) The student will be able to:

Name the parts of the hearing aid with appropriate vocabulary.


Explain why it is important to take care of hearing aids.
Explain and demonstrate what to do if my hearing aid breaks.
Describe what to do with a hearing aid in the morning and before bed.

Introduction
Oral/Demonstration Pretest - on their own (First time no help, second time TC)
Identify parts of the hearing aid
Write vocabulary on the board
Record Data What are students oral and signed responses? Use results to help guide pre teaching of vocabulary
Pre-teach Vocabulary - Practice spelling, writing, saying, and signing.

Developmental Activities

Discussion - How do I take good care of my hearing aid?


The student will describe what she does with her hearing aid in the morning.
The student will describe what she does with her hearing aid before bed.
The student will describe what do if my hearing aid is not working.
Role Play

The student and teacher will act out possible situations when hearing aids break, and what to do.
The student will show and explain what he/she does with their hearing aids in the morning and before bed.

Data will be taken on students ability to explain and act out these concepts
Conclusion
Post Test (Redo pretest with additional questions)
Test students ability to read and or sign the vocabulary terms using correct sign and speech.
Test the student the next day, for retention.

Formative/Summative Assessment
Formative Students will show understanding during the lesson by answer questions and giving examples in various
communication modes throughout the lesson. Demonstration and explanation of activities and vocabulary.

Summative - Pre and posttest reading, signing, speech articulation, pronunciation and understanding of vocabulary
words.

Data Analysis and Reflection on Planning/Instruction; Plans for Re-teaching (as applicable)
The data collection of demonstration, pretest and posttest (the students formative and summative assessments results)
will determine if additional teaching is needed for mastery of objectives and standard.
Over the next few weeks, the Student will develop a chart and book with information about their hearing loss to take
home.
