QUESTION-(1)-Who is at fault and why?

Based upon the case study information, Balbir, the Joint Secretary of the Union is at fault. Instead of
acting as a responsible union official, Balbir created a huge scene. According to Khieff (2005), HRM
theory is all about better human resource management in organizations and maintaining discipline.
Balbir failed to follow this theory and did not realise the job of a supervisor to help maintain
discipline. Balbir set a violent and bad example for the employees. Further, he also insulted Madan
infront of a large number of workers.
Balbir also shouted at Madan and in a way warned him. This is not only an act against the HRM
theory but also an example of extreme unprofessionalism in the organism. Instead of creating such
an issue, Balbir should have calmly heard Madan and understood the issue. He should have just
cleared the matter between both of them inspite of publicly shouting (Khieff, 2005).
Do you think unionized employees require a different kind of treatment on matters relating
to discipline?
Based upon the given case as well as taking into consideration, the theory of HRM, unionized
employees do not basically require any different or special kind of treatment especially in regards to
matter relating to organisational discipline. One of the best approaches to the same could be
managing all employees of the organization in a same manner, irrespective of them being part of a
union or not (Khieff, 2005). The treatment criteria should be their effectiveness and work skills.
What should Raju do now to check both Madan and Balbir from going to the street future?
Based upon the information provided in the case study, an unprofessional act has occurred in the
organization between Balbir, the Joint Secretary of the Union and Madan, the supervisor. Balbir had
insulted Madan infront of a large number of worker and set a violent and bad example for the
employees. According to Khieff (2005), HRM theory is all about better human resource management
in organizations and maintaining discipline.
In order to ensure that both Madan and Balbir do not get to the street future, the following
measures could be adopted by Raju:

Formulation of strong HRM and union policies in the organization

Ensuring that management well addresses the concerns of the supervisors

Taking necessary measures to regular review and monitor the performance of the workers.
