Introduction:
The following document is an annotated bibliography of the contamination
of beaches in Puerto Rico. There are five sources that are generally associated with
the general reader. Meanwhile the other five are from the UPRM database. This
annotated bibliography will help give a summary of each individual reference and
how it relates to the main topic of the proposal.

General reader:

2016, from http://www.junteambiental.com/ecoagentes/detalle/27
This website represents information about the negative effects on the
beaches due to careless disposal of human waste and construction sites near
beaches.

This article talks about the different research that demonstrates that nine of
the beaches in Puerto Rico are contaminated due to the increase of bacteria.
Contaminacin: Las desventajas de ir a la playa. (n.d.). Retrieved March 04, 2016,
from http://noticias.universia.pr/enportada/noticia/2013/12/31/1072424/contaminacion-desventajas-ir-playa.html
This website discusses how is not safe to go to some beaches anymore
because of the contamination that we have cause by disposing of disposing
carelessly of the different type of waste.

Contaminacin Ambiental en Playas y Ros. (n.d.). Retrieved March 04, 2016,

from http://aguayambiente.blogspot.com/
This website discusses various issues due to environmental contamination
on the island. Some of which are pollution on beaches, water contamination,
and the increase of bacteria in the sand.
La creciente contaminacin amenaza las playas y la pesca en Puerto Rico. (n.d.).
Retrieved March 04, 2016, from
http://www.eluniverso.com/2011/05/05/1/1430/creciente-contaminacion-amenazaplayas-pesca-puerto-rico.html
This website talks about how the contamination is effecting the quality of
the water, the amount of fish in the ocean, and corals. It explains how this
issue is hard to resolve due to how expensive it is to repair.

As part of an assessment of land-based sources of pollution in Jobos Bay,
Puerto Rico, sediment samples were collected at 43 sites to characterize
concentrations of a suite of pollutants, including metals. The data presented
here suggests that, although the Jobos Bay watershed contains both urban
centers along with industrial and agricultural developments, anthropogenic
inputs of metals may be negligible.

This article discusses the result of the widespread pollution that outstrips the
capacity necessary for the preservation of the environment, which has
caused a landfill crisis, a lot of heritage dumps and advancing in tide
pollution.

Rapid industrialization has transformed the agricultural economy of Puerto
Rico, creating employment opportunities and raising standards of living.
Success, however, is marred by widespread pollution that outstrips the
infrastructural capacity necessary for the preservation of environmental
quality and of human health.

This research quantifies the distribution of toxic releases in Puerto Rico to
determine whether environmental inequality exists. Their findings suggest
Puerto Rico has a relatively constant and unequal distribution of releases.

Conclusion:
An annotated bibliography helps readers understand where the writers
acquired the information necessary to complete their finished product. In this case,
the annotated bibliography presents the sources that have been used to research the
topic of contamination in the beaches of Puerto Rico. Five of these sources are
meant for the general reader, which were taken from newspapers and websites. The
other five are scholarly sources from the UPRM database, such as Academic One
File. These sources are meant for the use of the research that needs to be done in
order to complete the information that will help people create a conscious about the
pollution in the beaches in Puerto Rico, but as research continues these sources
may change.
