2. Nomination Guidelines and Procedures

Any employee can nominate a co-worker for an award at any time during the
nomination period.
The giver of the nomination must include a detailed description of a specific instance
when the employee demonstrated that months value.
General complimentary statements without supporting examples will not be valid.
Employees cannot nominate themselves.
Employees cannot win the same award for a similar action more than once in a year.

3. Method of Submitting Nominations

Paper

Paper nominations are submitted

through a drop box located in an
easily accessible but somewhat
discreet place. (See Supplement A).

Online

Electronic nomination forms are

submitted through SurveyMonkey on
the restaurant computer. Alternatively,
the link to the survey could be posted on
a bulletin board or sent out in e-mails or
text messages.

Link to survey is posted and sent out on

the 1st of each month.
All nominations for that category are
due by the 25th of that month.
The winner is selected and the award is
presented to the recipient by the end of
the month.
Responses are deleted and category on
survey is changed before the 1st of each
month.

4. Deadlines

Box with label is set out on the 1st of

each month.
All nominations for that category are
due by the 25th of that month.
The winner is selected and the award
is presented to the recipient by the
end of the month.
The box is emptied and a new
category is posted before the 1st of
each month.

5. Selection Process
If multiple people receive the same number of nominations, read the justifications
for each nomination and choose the person that made the most significant
contribution. OR randomly select a winner.

Select the person with the most

nominations to receive the award.
Hand out the nominations to the
other individuals that do not receive
an award

Find the person with the most responses

on question 2. Locate their name in
question 3, click on "Responses" and
review the reasoning for their
nomination to ensure the nomination is
justified. (See Supplement B, Step 1-2)

6. Monitoring the Program

Keep a log of the receiver of each award with the reason for their nomination
(See Supplement C for sample log)

Empty the box

Change the category label

Delete all responses. (See Supplement B,

Step 3)

Supplement B, Step 4-5)

7. Awards
The recipient will receive their nomination certificate (see Supplement D)
describing the reason for the nomination in addition to a monetary reward such
as:

$20 gift card of their choosing

8. Marketing the Program

Announce the new program on a bulletin board for the employees. Explain the
instructions and deadline for submitting a nomination, the award criteria, and the
types of awards that will be offered (see Supplement E). Update the category on
the bulletin board each month.

10. Alternative Recommendations

Dont specify award criteria. Allow employees to select the category for each
nomination instead of choosing one each month.
Ask employees what rewards they want. Administer a survey to identify their interests
and motivations.
Cater each reward to the individual employee. During interactions with employees,
take note of each employees interests and values. If an employee is always drinking
coffee, they might prefer a gift card to Starbucks.
Performance-based evaluation metrics. Servers: Appetizer, dessert, and drink sales.
Cooks: punctuality, attendance, ticket times, and work station cleanliness.
Work alongside employees. It creates a were-all-in-this-together culture and shows
you understand the challenges of the job. It's also a good way to gain insight into
employees' motivations and interests. This information is valuable if you decide to
personalize rewards to fit the individual.

Employee of the Month. Each month, based on peer-to-peer recognition cards, create a
custom beverage or a special menu item named after the employee of the month that
can be promoted at a discounted price, in their honor. This creates a relationship
between the employees and customers. It also reinforces behavior after the event and
showcases the employees accomplishment to the customers.
