A. Thisisaseventhgradeclassroom.Wehavehadanumberofdiscussionsabout
DeafcultureandDeafidentitythroughouttheyear.Allthestudentshaveread
HarryPotterandtheSorcerersStonebyJKRowling.Readinglevelsrangefrom
theendoffirstgradetoaboutthemiddleoffourthgrade.Studentswritinglevels
vary,butstudentsarecapableofsimplesentencesandparagraphs.

Procedures
A. Introducethatforthenextthreeweekswewillbeworkingonaprojectwherewe
willbediscussingandcreatingdifferentaspectsofanewDeafschoolthatwe
wouldwanttocreate.
B. Givestudentsexamplesofwhattheywillbedoingineachclass.Eachclass
(math,socialstudies,science,Deafstudies)willbecreatingadifferentproject
buttheywillallberelatedtoourthemeofcreatingtheidealDeafschool.They
willlearnmoreaboutthespecificsofeachprojectineachclass,butallthe
projectswillbepresentedonthelastdayforourunit(thelastFriday).
C. WewillalsobetakingafieldtriptotheSandersonDeafCenter.(Studentswillbe
abletoaskquestions,askabouthowtheDeafcentergotitsnameaswellashow
JMSgotitsname,andseehowthecenterissetupandgetideasforwhatis
importanttothemabouttheirschool.)
D. ForourprojectinDeafstudieswewillbeselectinganameforourschool.We
wanttopickanamethathonorssomeoneinDeafeducation.Thereareveryfew
schoolsfortheDeafthatarenamedafterimportantDeafindividualsandwewant
