SWK 4910 001: Integrative Field Seminar
CORE COMPETENCY 8
Practice Behavior: 23
Critically choose and implement interventions to achieve practice goals and
enhance capacities of clients and constituencies.
Before conducting my Agency Project, Making IT Count, I had to gain feedback from
my supervisor to determine what Fairmont Middle School needed as a new or needed
project. Through critically analyzing all possible new or needed projects between those
my supervisor and I determined, I implemented Making IT Count at Fairmont Middle
School in two meetings with two students who had accumulated more than 10
unexcused absences. This project not only helped address the issue but, allowed the
students and I to discuss ways to improve their attendance. The ways the students
listed to improve their attendance can enhance their capacities to manage their time
management.
Practice Behavior: 24
Apply knowledge of human behavior and the social environment, person-inenvironment, and other multidisciplinary theoretical frameworks in
interventions with clients and constituencies.
While conducting my Agency Project, Making IT Count, I applied knowledge gained
from HBSE I and HBSE II to intervene with the students.

Practice Behavior: 26
Negotiate, mediate, and advocate with and on behalf of diverse clients and
constituencies.
When it comes to negotiating, mediating, and advocating with and on behalf of diverse
clients, I have encountered many experiences with this practice behavior.
If a student has ten or more unexcused absences, my supervisor allows parents/guardians a
chance to bring in ten handwritten notes per year and doctors notes. When out conducting
home visits, I observe my supervisor as she always negotiates with the parents/guardians on
bringing in notes. When students constantly miss school, they are missing important
instructional educational time. I have not attended court yet; however, court is the final step
to create advocacy for the students.
