What Is Bullying

Bullying Is:
Bullying is unwanted, aggressive behavior that involves a real or
perceived power imbalance. The behavior is repeated, or has the
potential to be repeated, over time.

CMCSS Defines Bullying As:


Harm occurring through an intentional act; and
A power imbalance exists; and
The accused enjoys carrying out the actions; and
The accused repeats the behavior, often in a systematic way; and
The target has a sense of being persecuted or oppressed and is hurt
physically and/or psychologically

Types of Bullying:
1.Harassment & Intimidation:
Any act that substantially interferes with a students educational benefits, opportunities
or performances and:
If the act takes place on school grounds, at any school-sponsored activity, on
school-provided equipment or transportation or at any official school bus stop that has the
effect of:
Physically harming a student or damaging a student's property;
Knowingly placing a student or students in reasonable fear of physical harm to the
student(s) or damage to the students or students property; or
Causing emotional distress to a student(s) or
Creating a hostile educational environment

Cyberbullying:
Bullying that creates a hostile educational environment or otherwise creating a
substantial disruption to the educational environment or learning process.

Cyberbullying includes, but is not limited to:


The use of information and technologies, such as email, cell phone text or
pictures messages, instant messaging and defamatory personal websites,
social networking sites, and online personal polling sites- to support
deliberate, hostile behavior intended to frighten or harm others

Hazing:

Any intentional or reckless act, on or off school system property, by one student acting
alone or with others, directed against any other student, that endangers the mental or
physical health or safety of that student or that induces or coerces a student to endanger
the students mental or physical health or safety.
Hazing does not include athletic events or similar contests or competitions and is limited
to those actions taken and situations created in connection with initiation into or affiliation
with any organization

What Is Conflict?

Conflict Is:
Conflict is a normal part of life. Conflict can be a disagreement,
misunderstanding, or argument. Learning how to effectively deal with
conflict is an important aspect in your social development.

Ways To Solve Conflict:

Bullying:
1. A person being targeted is, weaker
than the attractor (e.g. less friends,
smaller, younger, has a disability

2. Bully is wanting to creating


intentional fear or humiliate its
victim

3. The bully is repeatedly seeking out


its victim, at times going out of the
way to locate them.

Conflict:
1. All individuals involved are equal in
power

2. The issue has stemmed from a


disagreement that both parts
involved feel hurt due to different
viewpoints.

3. The same disagreement, argument


or misunderstanding does not
happen over and over again instead
may happen every once and awhile.

Scenarios
Two female members of the school basketball team are arguing with
each other over the loss of a recent game. One of the girls is blaming
the other for letting the opposing team knock the ball out of her hands
before she could throw it. The other girl is saying its her teammate's
fault because she didnt pass the ball to her during the last few seconds
of the game. They continue to fight until their coach gets involved and
tells the girls to stop arguing.

past 4 days. You are very annoyed and yell at them. You are mad
because they must be doing this on purpose.
