Remediated work needs to be done in a way that is effective for the audience chosen. If the work is informal, but it is presented to a formal audience, then the scientist will not think your research is credible. Tone is not only important for the audience, it is also important in remediating a work.

My understanding of the terms remediation, audience, and tone have evolved the most over the semester. Before taking the research, genre, and context class, my understanding of the terms remediation, audience, and tone was vague, and I also did not consider these terms when I wrote to the extent that I do now. Now that I have a better understanding, I greatly consider these terms because after this course, I came to the realization that without giving remediation, audience, and tone much consideration, a work will not be as effective as it could have been. When remediating a work, considering the audience is an important aspect in the remediation process. The work needs to be remediated in a way that is effective for the audience chosen. For example, if the audience is a group of scientists, the remediated work should be formal and scientific. The work should also be presented in a way to show the research, observations, and results effectively. Remediating the work into the structure of a case study would probably be the best option for this type of audience. If the remediated work is done inappropriately for the audience, then the information will not be communicated effectively. The tone of the work is another thing that needs to be considered for a particular audience. If the work is informal, but it is presented to a formal audience, the scientists for example, then the scientist will not think your research is credible. If a formal tone is used in an informal setting, for example presenting the scientific research to teenagers, then the audience may not understand the research and most likely would not pay attention. Making sure the correct tone is used is important because if the tone is inappropriate for the audience, then the desired result will not be achieved. Tone is not only an important thing to consider for the audience, but it is also important to consider in remediating a work. Before a work is remediated, first a tone has to be chosen. The way the work is remediated depends on if the tone is formal, informal, straightforward, etc. The remediated work itself needs to match the tone throughout the work so that it can be communicated effectively. If a formal tone is used throughout the work, but the remediated work itself looks informal, the information may seem like it is not credible which is why it is important to be consistent. When remediating a work, tone and audience are key terms to consider. If a work is remediated without the consideration of audience and tone, information may not be communicated effectively, the information may seem like it is not credible, and the audiences attention may not be kept. The remediation, audience, and tone have to be chosen carefully and should be well thought out for the best result. Learning more how these terms are intertwined showed me how important they are to consider and have helped me think and write more critically, ethically, and reflexively.
