Compressed gas safety-- identify & using of LP & HP regulators

2.

Procedure/Precautions to charge wheels, accumulators

Cylinder : Nitrogen Cylinder contains Nitrogen of Pressure 2000 psi and is operated by a
bottle key
LP regulator
Identification : one HP gage at outlet of Cylinder
one LP gage at inlet of hose
HP Regulator :
Identification : one HP gage at outlet of Cylinder & one HP gage at inlet of hose
For Charging Accumulators & For Cleaning & Charging Tires
HP gages ranges from 0 to 4000 psi
L P gages ranges from 0 to 1200 psi
Hose : Two Types
Low Pressure Hose below 1000 psi
High Pressure Hose above 1000 psi
Operation : Connect the Regulator to the Cylinder with Right hand thread for tightening and
then to the hose and Adapter or TPG etc ,
Always use Teflon tape for the connections so that there should be no leak
When all the connections are made , move the bottle key in the direction as Marked on the
Nozzle of the Key Adapter and the pressure in the Nitrogen bottle is read in the inlet gage(HP) of
Regulator. The valve in the regulator is adjusted ( Clockwise to increase pressure and
Anticlockwise to decrease pressure) to get the required output pressure for inflation of any part .

ACCUMULATOR Charging Procedure

CAUTION: TO ENSURE CORRECT HYDRAULIC ACCUMULATORS INFLATION, TAKE EXTREME
CARE OF DETAILED CHARGING PROCEDURE. FAILURE TO DO SO MAY RESULT IN THERMAL
UNBALANCE DURING THE CHARGING ACTIVITY AND MAY AFFECT FINAL PRESSURE
REQUIREMENTS.
1. USING THE COMPONENTS OF THE AIR/HYDRAULIC TOOL KIT AND THE PRESSURE GAUGE
PRODUCE
SYSTEM AS SHOWN ON THE FIGURE. CONNECT THE NITROGEN SUPPLY SOURCE TO THE
CONTROL COCK(1).
2. OPEN VALVES "A" AND "B" OF THE CONTROL COCK (1) AND APPLY A LOW NITROGEN
PRESSURE TO BLEED THE SYSTEM, THEN CLOSE THE VALVES "A" AND "B".
3. REMOVE THE PROTECTIVE CAP (4).
4. CONNECT THE CHARGING COCK (3) TO THE VALVE(6).
5. LOOSEN NUT (5) ON VALVE (6) AT MAXIMUM ONE OR TWO TURNS.
6. OPEN VALVE "A" OF CONTROL COCK (1).

7. GRADUALLY INCREASE NITROGEN PRESSURE UNTIL THE PRESSURE GAUGE (2) SHOWS
1500 PSI
(103.4 BAR).
NOTE: THE ABOVE MENTIONED PRESSURE VALUE IS RELEVANT TO A TEMPERATURE OF 20C
(68F).
8. VERIFY THAT THE AIRCRAFT ACCUMULATOR PRESSURE GAUGE SHOWS THE SAME VALUE
OF THE
ONE INSTALLED ON THE CONTROL COCK (1).
9. SCREW NUT (5).
10.WAIT ABOUT TEN MINUTES TO ALLOW THE NITROGEN TO STABILIZE.
11.REPEAT THE OPERATIONS IF NECESSARY, UNTIL THE REQUIRED PRESSURE IS
OBTAINED.
12.TIGHTEN NUT (5) TO A TORQUE BETWEEN 0.5 AND 0.85 DAN.M (3.7 AND 6.3
LBS.FT).
13.CLOSE VALVE "A" OF CONTROL COCK (1).
14.SHUT OFF THE NITROGEN SUPPLY.
15.OPEN VALVE "B" OF CONTROL COCK (1) TO RELEASE THE PRESSURE IN THE CIRCUIT.
16.REMOVE THE CHARGING COCK (3).
17.CHECK THE CHARGING VALVE (6) FOR SEALING EFFICIENCY USING SOAPY WATER.
NOTE: CHECK THE ACCUMULATOR PRESSURE GAUGE AT NEXT FLIGHT, A DROPPING
PRESSURE RELATED
TO EXTERNAL TEMPERATURE DECREASING IS ADMISSIBLE. IF THE ACCUMULATOR PRESSURE
CONTINUES TO DROP, RE-PERFORM THE NITROGEN CHARGING. IF AT NEXT FLIGHT THE
PRESSURE IS STILL DROPPING, REMOVE AT THE FIRST OPPORTUNITY THE ACCUMULATOR
AND
EVALUATE IT.
