1. Howdidyouspendyourtimethisweek?Whatresponsibilitiesdidyouhave?
ThisweekIagainwasfullyinchargeoftheU.S.Historysections,andIspentmostof
mytimeworryingabouthowIwasgoingtokeepthestudentsinterestedinthetopic.In
Economics,Icontinuedtoengagemorewiththestudents,sothatMr.YengerandIcan
eventuallycoteachtheclasswiththestudentsbeingcomfortable.
2. Whatwereyourmostsatisfyingexperiences?Whatwereyourmostchallenging
experiences?
MymostsatisfyingexperiencethisweekhappenedonFriday.Iwasworkingthroughmy
lectureabouttheMontgomeryBusBoycott,whenMr.Yengermadeacommenttoa
studentaboutpayingattention.Thisstudenthadbeenpayingattention,andIthinkMr.
Yengerhadjustlookeduprightwhenthisstudentsstartedlaughingaboutsomething.
Jeremycalledhimoutonlaughing,andthestudentsaidhewaspayingattention,and,in
fact,thiswasthemostinterestedhehadbeeninhistoryinforever.Thatwasfroma
studentwhohadnotdonemuchpayingattentiontoanythingsinceIgottotheclassroom
inJanuary.Itwasagreatfeeling.Oneofmymorechallengingexperiencesactuallycame
intheexactsameclass.Atthebeginningofclass,Iaskedallthestudentstotaketheir
earbudsout,andonestudentdidnotfollowmyinstruction.Iwalkedovertohisdesk,and
quietlyremindedhimtoremovetheearbuds.Hedidso,andIwentbacktoteachingthe
class.Abouttenminutesintoclass,Mr.Yengerinterruptedmetoaskthissamestudent
outtothehallwithallofthisthings.Itwassurprising,anditthroughtherestoftheclass
intoasmalluproar.Icontinuedtheclass,butwascuriousofwhathehadseenfromthis
studentstowarrantremovalfromtheclassroom.
3. Whataretheplansfortheupcomingweek?
Thisweek,thestudentshaveMondayoffforateacherworkdaythatIwillbeattending.I
dontreallyknowwhattoexpectfromit,butIaminterested.InU.S.History,wewillbe
continuingourunitonthe1960swithtalkingabouttheCivilRightsmovement.In
Economics,wewillbetalkingaboutthesupplycurve.
