Peak shits based on interparticle distance

Spectral characteristics depend on:

Shape of nanoparticles
Size of nanoparticles
Composition of the nanoparticles
Surface Chemistry of nanoparticles
etc.

This work focuses on:

Effect of structural heterogeneity in assemblies

of a Au nanosphere (NS) and a Au Nanoplate
(NP)

Results & Discussions:

Four distinct classes of

behavior:
(7, 1116) exhibited a single LSPR mode, marginally
red-shifted relative to the LSPR mode of the isolated
NP.
(810) exhibited an LSPR mode considerably redshifted relative to the mode of the isolated NP.
Shoulder appears at 600 nm.
(2,5) exhibited two modes: a strongly redshifted
LSPR mode and another mode coincident with the
NPexhibited
mode. complex spectra with three
isolated
(1, 3, 4, 6)
modes.
Observation: the constructs with the smallest
NSs exhibited spectral properties different from
that of large-sized NS

Results & Discussions:

Simulation results to confirm the observation

Results & Discussions:

Simulation results to explain multiple peaks

Results & Discussions:

All constructs exhibited only a single

LSPR mode. The LSPR red shifted
relative to the isolated NP
Magnitude of red shift and size of NS
are correlated

Results & Discussions:

Conclusions:
Individual constructs prepared by controlled attachment of
a NS to a NP showed marked variations in their scattering
spectra
Correlation of structural morphologies and LSPR spectra
across multiple constructs revealed that the NS size was
the primary structural variable that dictated the spectral
properties.
Small NSs resulted in spectra with a single LSPR mode,
whereas large NSs resulted in complex spectra with
multiple LSPR modes.
