Include a copy of the lesson assessment.
Provide exemplar student responses with the level of detail you expect to see.
Assign value to each portion of the response
100% of students will be able determine the main idea of a text with 90% out of 100%
accuracy.
Sub-objectives, SWBAT (knowledge, skill, purpose):
How will you review past learning and make connections to previous lessons?
What skills and content are needed to ultimately master this lesson objective?
How is this objective relevant to students, their lives, and/or the real world?
Teacher Will:
What comes to your mind when you
hear the word Main Idea and what a

Then ring the bell and have the students
all to return back to their seat.
Ask 4 students say what one of their
partner said and weather they agree or
not.
Explore
How will you model your performance expectations? (remember you are not modeling what you want students
to discover but need to model expected behavior or required procedures).
How will students take the lead and actively use materials to discover information that will help them answer
the question posed in the Engage?
What questions or prompts will you be prepared to use with students while they are exploring?
Teacher Will:
Mention to the students that
today we will be determining the
main idea of a passage.
Divided the students in pairs.

Co-Teaching Strategy
What co-teaching approach will you use to maximize student achievement?
Nicholas- will need to be grouped with someone who can keep him on task and
redirect him when he is having difficulties staying on task.
Dylan- will need someone to also be with someone who is welling to help him stay on
task when he gets distracted.
Explain
How will all students have an opportunity to share what they discovered?
How will you connect student discoveries to correct content terms/explanations?
How will all students articulate/demonstrate a clear and correct understanding of the sub-objectives by
answering the question from the Engage before moving on?

Co-Teaching Strategy
What co-teaching approach will you use to maximize student achievement?
Elaborate
How will students take the learning from Explore and Explain and apply it to a new circumstance or explore a
particular aspect of this learning at a deep level?
How will students use higher order thinking at this stage (e.g. A common practice in this section is to pose a
What If? Question)?
How will all students articulate how their understanding has changed or been solidified?
Teacher Will:
Go over the main idea powerpoint and
provide an example of ways students
can recognize supporting details.
Explain ways students can figure out
ways of finding out the main idea.
Go over the quiz online
Students Will:
Participate when asked during the
powerpoint.
Participate during the quiz.
Co-Teaching Strategy
What co-teaching approach will you use to maximize student achievement?
Nicholas- will only have to highlight the supporting details and circle the main idea.
Dylan wil have to highlight and write the main idea.
Evaluate
How will all students demonstrate mastery of the lesson objective (though perhaps not mastery of the
elaborate content)?
How will students have an opportunity to summarize the big concepts they learned (separate from the
assessment)?
Teacher Will:
Ask the student to read the passage.
Ask the students to Highlight the
supporting details
Ask the students to write what the
main idea is and why?
Mention that today we were able to
determine the main idea of a passage.
Students Will:
Work queitly on their main idea
passage.
Reflection: Describe how you will use data collected and analyzed for this
lesson to inform future instructional decisions for each group of students (i.e.,
those who exceed, meet, approach AND fall far below the standard for meeting
the objective of the lesson.
