Dear Malcom

Since you wanted to know about me given you want us to write a letter to
you without any formality, I will not disappoint you. I am from Mebane,
(pronounced meh-ben) which is a small town in North Carolina with a
population of about 8,000 people and given that this constitutes Mebane as
small everyone knows what exactly you are doing which typically isnt fun if
you are a teenager. I am 19 years old in a family of six. I have three brothers
Matt, Kurt, and Kyle. People have pointed out that all of these names have
one syllables in this and I have deduced my parents gave us these names as
a result of the quickness of yelling one syllable words. Earlier in my life
instead of politely knocking on our doors in the house, my parents would
simply just yell at us to come for them and I believe this constitutes as
evidence to my hypothesis.
Since you wanted me to give you a little perspective about how I view the
world, I will indeed give that to you. During my free time, I read a magazine
known as Harpers Magazine, as well as reading news articles from USA
today, the Guardian and NPR as books such as Candide, Communist
Manifesto, The Rainbow (which I am currently reading), and Justine (dont
read this book). Although I do not write nearly as much read I do sometimes
write a bit during my free time. Mainly my topics consists of why Humans are
futile and why feelings dont exist. Another activity I love to do in my free
time would be to listen to NPR podcast and listen to TED talks as these talks
tend to give creative ideas on how society functions as a whole. My favorite
podcasts in which I enjoy the most would be Eric X. Lis talk about Socialism
Vs Capitalism. Given the books, magazine and sources Ive read, Im sure
you have deduced that I care a lot about politics and in this you are right. As
far as my political standpoint goes I am a self-described socialist that would
like to see reform in American society. Since this isnt a politics class I will
end the political nonsense here. Music is a vital part of my life and I would
consider in to be a hobby as I play the keyboard as well as listen to some
music. Some of my favorite bands would be Kove, Death Cab for Cutie,
Sylvan Esso, and Grimes. My favorite music genre would be indie (if you
dont know what that is, its pretty much a genre that defies other genre
clarifications.
To give a little bit more background about what I am at UNCC, I am a first
year student (obviously) majoring in Psychology. I am currently volunteering
as a crisis interventionist at an organization known as IMalive, which is an
online chatroom platform in which is dedicated to help people, as statistic
states that 40% of traditional hotlines have dropped calls given it is more
nerve-racking for someone to talk on a phone then it is to chat in an
anonymous chatroom. Aside from this I am a member of UNC spectrum
which advocates for sexuality equality, to write love on her arms which calls
attention to mental disorders, as well as a member of NAMI, which calls for

stigmatization of mental health problems. I am hoping that this spring

semester I will become even more involved on campus and achieve even
more social change in society, particularly within the transgender
community.
I hope by engaging in this class, I will gain further insight on the process of a
writer as well as furthering my progression of creative thoughts which will in
turn foster in my writing capabilities. As a whole, I am expecting my
expectation to be met; I hope I am not disappointed
Au Revoir
