INNOVATIONS EUROPEAN GUITAR COMPOSITIONS OF THE 1970s AND 1980s BY STEPHEN GOSS PART 4: CONCLUSION IT HAS only been in the last 30 years or so that musicologists have begun to construct a theory of timbre. The reason for this delayed development has been suggested by Cogan and Escot, who believe that until now. we have lacked the means to analyse sound objectively.
