Step 3Learning Plan

Learning activities (step by step from start to finish, detailed enough for another teacher to follow)
Day one: In class
- Explain what flipped learning is (why we are using it and how we will be using it)
- This week we will be learning about the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle and the benefits
between diet and exercise
- Discuss:
-why being active every day is important in order to stay healthy
-what types of activities do each of you participate in each week to stay active?
-What can you do to make sure you are getting some sort of physical activity in at least twice a
week?
Day two: Outside of class lesson
- Students will learn about healthy food habits and the relationship between a healthy diet and
physical activity
- Introduce topic of healthy eating, food varieties, physical activities and the relationships

- Activity: MyPlate template to students. Have them list their food consumption from yesterday and
put it into the appropriate food groups.

Day three: In class

and flexibility
- Begin class by asking the students what are some benefits of physical activity? write on the board

PowerPoint on benefits of physical activity (describes physical, mental and social benefits, ways to
develop strength, endurance, and flexibility)
Students will create a profile on the website Choose MyPlate and will track their food intake and
fitness for one week
After one week, students will bring their nutrition/fitness tracking to class and they will assess them
Are they portioning their food out according to the MyPlate template?
Are they getting the required amount of exercise each week?
Do they need to add foods in certain groups? Do they need to eliminate foods in certain groups?
What did they do well on? What can they improve on?
