What are the conventions of music videos from this genre?

Artists are portrayed as:

Happy and content

Fashionable mainstream style

Good looking

Sometimes artists may dress provocatively in order to create controversy

How are you going to meet these conventions in your video?

Style (in-concert and as live footage; animation (stop motion, digital); interpretative; narrative;
impressionist; surrealist; pastiche; parody; referencing; homage)

In my video I hope that my character will meet the conventions which are in other music
videos, I will achieve this by using a good looking front character, in addition to this I will
ensure that they are dressed in fashionable clothes in order to attract a young target
audience. My characters wont dress provocatively as it is a video about being happy rather
than being controversial. I will use cutting to the beat in order to create a fun and happy
atmosphere for the video.

Costume
Fashionable clothing red shirt, blue trousers
Extras will bring a grey bland set of clothes however they will change into brighter clothes
when the main character comes and talks to them.

Lighting
For my video, the only lighting that I will need is natural lighting, I will achieve this by filming
it in the day when there is a lot of light outside. I need natural lighting because the natural
lighting will hopefully remind people of a sunny day, which would hopefully make people
reminiscent of summer.

Locations
The location that I will be filming on is a side path in Henley-On-Thames, the location will not
have cars on it as it is not a road and there is a lot of natural light as there arent a lot of
houses around which are blocking the natural light.

Shot types
The shot types that I will be using is:
Long Shot
Mid Shot
Close up

Research
What music videos have you watched to research your genre?
Firework Katy Perry https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QGJuMBdaqIw
Justin Bieber Sorry - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRh_vgS2dFE
Ed Sheeran Lego House - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4BLVznuWnU
Daft Punk Get Lucky - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NV6Rdv1a3I

How have these videos influenced the decisions made? Include screen shots of the key
influences

The videos have influenced the decisions made such as style, for example, rather than 80s
clothing I am going to get my main character to wear bright fashionable clothing in order to
ensure that the video is trendy. An example of this would be Justin Bieber Sorry where all
of the actors in the video are wearing trendy clothing.

Lyrics

[Verse 1:]
It might seem crazy what I'm about to say
Sunshine she's here, you can take a break
I'm a hot air balloon that could go to space
With the air, like I don't care, baby, by the way
Uh
[Chorus:]
Because I'm happy
Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof
Because I'm happy
Clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth
Because I'm happy
Clap along if you know what happiness is to you
Because I'm happy
Clap along if you feel like that's what you wanna do
[Verse 2:]
Here come bad news talking this and that, yeah,
Well, give me all you got, and don't hold it back, yeah,
Well, I should probably warn you I'll be just fine, yeah,
No offense to you, don't waste your time
Here's why
[Chorus]
Hey
Go
Uh[Bridge:]
(Happy)
Bring me down
Can't nothing
Bring me down
My level's too high
Bring me down
Can't nothing
Bring me down
I said (let me tell you now)
Bring me down
Can't nothing
Bring me down
My level's too high
Bring me down
Can't nothing
Bring me down
I said
[Chorus 2x]
Hey
Go
Uh
(Happy) [repeats]
Bring me down... can't nothing...
Bring me down... my level's too high...
Bring me down... can't nothing...
Bring me down, I said (let me tell you now)
[Chorus 2x]
Hey
C'mon

Meaning of the song

Does the song have a meaning? If so, what is it?

The meaning of the song is to stay happy even when everything seems to go against you. In
the song it says clap along if you feel like a room without a roof which could be trying to
suggest that there are no limits or boundaries to your happiness, effectively your happiness
can soar to new heights with no ceiling.

How will your visuals relate to the song? (Illustrate, Amplify or Disjuncture)
My visuals will relate to the song because they will involve many people changing their
attitude, as at the beginning of the video the actors will be instructed to look upset until the
main character comes near them where they will change their attitudes and begin to dance.
This means that I am illustrating to them the visuals. The location of the video will also reflect
this, the weather will be sunny and it will be on a gravel path in order to reflect a walk in a
park.

Mood board

Create a mood board showing what look your music video will have. Add images
showing ideas of mise-en-scene, characters, costumes and colours that will be
present in the different shots.
