Chris Beckwith, Camp Hob Director

Camp Hobe, Inc.
P.O. Box 520755
Salt Lake City, UT 84152-0755
Mr. Beckwith,
Attached to this letter is a summary of our findings in regards to
improving fundraising efforts. After the fundraising efforts were
completed, my team and I prepared a survey that was administered to
everyone in attendance. From their responses we have prepared a list
of suggestions that can be implemented in the future to boost the
amount of people in attendance at said events.
In years past, the advertising for our events has been limited to a
select audience. Typically, our primary attendees are relatives of
campers, or people who live near the camp itself. What my team and I
want to do is spread the word to the masses so that people who have
never heard of Camp Hob before can donate if they choose to. Our
research is geared towards discovering better ways to inform our
donors of philanthropic events.
Please review the attached report and let us know what, if any,
suggestions you may have. We look forward to working with you in the
future to help make Camp Hob fundraising events more successful.

Sincerely,

Brett Allison

Introduction
Over the past several years, fundraising events have been
hosted for Camp Hob in an attempt to sponsor campers who would
otherwise be unable to afford it. While these events have been
successful in past years, our team feels that they could be more
successful with additional advertisement. Over the course of the past
few weeks, my team and I have worked together to come up with a
survey that was administered at the main event of this Springs
fundraising campaign. The main banquet event had 120 attendants,
59 of which participated in the survey. From their answers, we were
able to identify what we believe to be areas of improvement for
fundraising campaigns in the future.
Our survey revolved around a couple general topics: were
attendees satisfied with they way that the events were hosted this
year, and how they felt about the advertising for said events. Our
collected data should prove some support for alterations in the
advertising plans created in future years.
The only true limitation we faced was that we could not force the
event attendees to complete our survey. As stated above, roughly
50% of the patrons who attended the banquet filled out the survey.
Our findings are consistent with our hypothesis that most of the
advertising for the events are from word-of-mouth from friends and
family of campers.
We hope that our data and suggestions are able to help benefit
future fundraising efforts for Camp Hob. The more money that is able
to be raised allows for more children to experience the emotional break
that Camp Hob provides.

Our first survey question

was, On a scale of 1 (very unsatisfied) to 5 (Very satisfied) please rate
your satisfaction with this years fundraising events as compared to
previous years. Our survey results indicated a dead tie between a
rating of 3 and 4. Only 10% of attendees were very satisfied with the
turnout of this years events. Our team was pleased that only one
person surveyed was Very Unsatisfied with the events that they
attended. These results indicate that the events were well perceived in
a majority of cases.

Likelyhood to Attend Future Banquet Style Events

The second question was

geared towards discovering how well the banquet dinner was
perceived by attendees. This was the first year that a banquet-style
event had been thrown and numerous members of the planning
committee were concerned about its success. When asked Are you
likely to attend future banquet style events? ninety percent of
respondents said that they were likely to attend similar events in the
future. This was good news for the planning committee given their
concerns about the success of the event.

How did you first hear about fundraising efforts for camp hobe

The third question on the survey

was used to gauge where first people had heard about fund raising
events for Camp Hob. Survey takers were asked How did you first
become aware of fundraising opportunities for Camp Hobe? Select all
that apply. They had six options to choose from; radio, television,
internet, friend, relative, or printed posters. Unsurprisingly, friend was
the top answer with 53 votes. This did not shock out team due to the
fact that there has been little-to-no outside advertising done to spread
awareness of fundraisers. This data in particular proves our original
idea that the majority of advertising is done by word-of-mouth.

Which form of advertising do you feel is most effective?

The purpose of question 4 is

to see which forms of advertising are most effective for our attendees.
When asked Which of the following types of advertising do you feel is
most effective to you? Select all that apply. Respondents indicated
that internet advertisements were the most effective way to spread
awareness of events. Fifty-four of the 59 respondents checked internet
as at least on of their options. My team and I believe that pursuing

advertisements via internet and television could benefit future

fundraising endeavors.

Would You Like to be Notified of Future Fundraising Events via SMS/Email Reminders?

The fifth and final

question was used to explore the idea of setting up a reminder service
that would automatically notify donors of future events thrown in
support of Camp Hob. Our team was surprised with the amount of
people who did not want to opt-in to the reminder service. When
asked Would you like to be notified of future fundraising opportunities
via SMS and/or Email reminders? 81% of people declined the option.
However, the remaining 19% provided emails and phone numbers
incase a service like this were to be set up in the future.

Conclusion & Recommendations

After reviewing the survey results, my team and I have developed
several recommendations based off of the responses from each of the
individual survey questions.
1) On a scale of 1 (very unsatisfied) to 5 (Very satisfied) please rate
your satisfaction with this years fundraising events as compared to
previous years.
a) With their being a tie between the ratings of 3 and 4, we believe
that only minor changes should be made to the planning of the
events. Scheduling is important as well. Look ahead and make
sure there are no conflicting events on the dates that fundraisers
are to be held
2) Are you likely to attend future banquet style events?
a) With 90 percent of survey takers stating that they would attend
future banquet events, we suggest as a team that this be an
avenue looked into for future efforts. With more time spent
planning and proper execution, banquet style events have to
potential to be great fundraisers.
3) How did you first become aware of fundraising opportunities for
Camp Hobe? Select all that apply.
a) As we initially suspected, most of the public awareness for
fundraising efforts came from the mouths of family or friends of
campers. We suggest that more funds be allocated toward more
effective advertising methods such as television or radio.
4) Which of the following types of advertising do you feel is most
effective to you? Select all that apply.
a) The overwhelming favorite of this questions was internet
advertisements. We recommend taking out ad space on popular
website like Facebook and Twitter in a effort to spread more
awareness. Television and radio ads should be pursued as well,
budget allowing.
5) Would you like to be notified of future fundraising opportunities via
SMS and/or Email reminders?
a) Despite a vast majority of respondents stating that they would
not like to be signed up for a reminder SMS/Email service, we still

recommend setting up some sort of optional reminder service.

Being able to reach out to the 19% of people who wanted to optin would allow for better attendance at future events.
