Performance Indicator: d. process data and report results
Common Core 1.RF.1a Recognize the distinguishing features of a sentence (e.g., first word,
Standard
capitalization, ending punctuation).
Lesson Scenario
As a class, we will go over the correct sentence format. The teacher will show several examples
of correct and incorrect sentences, focusing on capitalization and ending punctuation. After
viewing several examples and having the students acknowledge their understanding of the
sentence format, each student will have the opportunity to create his/her own short story
featuring their own superhero.
The teacher should be walking around the room to assist where needed. After everyone is
finished with their stories, they will then pass their story to the student next to them so that that
student can then proofread the story.
If the student did not have any mistakes, they may begin to create their story. We will use
TikaTok.com to write and illustrate each short story. The teacher should be walking around the
room and making sure everyone has a firm understanding of how the sentence should be
structured and helping with spelling as needed. Once everyone has completed their books, the
instructor will grade them and return to students for further review.

1.L.1.3 Summarize ways that humans protect their environment and/or

(e.g., reuse or recycle products to avoid littering.)

Lesson Scenario
The class will be divided into groups of three (class size permitting). Each group will have a
trash can and a recycling can. Each group will be given an envelope with ten items inside (paper
cutouts of daily household items such as a soda can, milk carton, banana peel, etc.). The students
will then determine whether those items belong in the trash can or in the recycling can. Each
group will explain why they thought that a particular item belonged in the trash or recycling.
Then we will learn via PowerPoint which items should be in the recycling and which should go
in the trash. The students will watch and participate in an interactive presentation on landfills,
recycling centers and the environment. They will discuss the potential harmful effects to plants
and wildlife if proper recycling is not practiced. The instructor will then review all the items
previously sorted by the groups for proper placement. Each student will then completed a
power promise cutout to attach to a larger classroom recycling bin for further emphasis
throughout the year.

REMINDER
Your scenario will show how you would implement activities to ensure all students met
the performance indicator for the technology standard (NETS-S) and the subject area
standard (Common Core and Essential Standards). The technology component used
in the lesson should be from the student. Remember that technology must be a
component since this is a technology standard!
