Pinwheel The Relationship With Your Children

Jessica is a single mother who has to work 10 hours every day and has two more part-time jobs
at night. She gets back home at 2 a.m. every day. Tired Jessica is used to shouting at her 5-yearold daughter Jenny. Poor Jenny does not know how to comfort her mom, but also is extremely
terrified of her. Tragedy happens every day in this family.
Child abuse occurs at every socioeconomic level, across ethnic and cultural lines, within all religions and at all levels of education. Did you know:
A report of child abuse is made every ten seconds.
47.38% of children were victims in Tippecanoe County.
54.33% of children were identified as having at least one substantiated allegation of abuse or
neglect on an assessment in Tippecanoe foster care.
Approximately 80% of children that die from abuse are under the age of 4.
About 30% of abused and neglected children will later abuse their own children, continuing the
horrible cycle of abuse.
14% of all men in prison in the USA were abused as children.
36% of all women in prison were abused as children.
Tippecanoe Child Abuse Prevention Council (T-CAP) aims to positively impact the prevention of
child abuse through education and awareness, and enhance the quality of life for families in
Tippecanoe County. In order to conduct the mission, T-CAP provides:
Advocacy: T-CAP ensures to reduce child abuse and neglect by maintaining a statewide network of volunteers to work on behalf of child abuse prevention in communities throughout Indiana.
Education: T-CAP considers anyone who works with youth as their target audiences, and educates them about child abuse prevention through one-on-one consultations, group workshops,
public speaking engagements, media relations, and event hosting.
Coalitions Growth: Through partnerships with local youth organizations, local businesses and
concerned individuals, T-CAP builds coalitions of professionals and volunteers who dedicate
their time and talents in the effort to end child abuse in Tippecanoe County.
