Learning objective: The students will be able to


know the five ways to retell a story and retell the
story through writing and drawing.

In this lesson the class will read the


book, Knuffle Bunny, together and
then the students will retell details of
the story through writings and
illustrations.

When retelling the story the students


can reference the 5-Finger Retell..

A video of the story being told will be available to watch, in


order to remember details.

Retelling Through Writing

First to retell the story the students will


write out a short summary that
includes the setting, characters,
problem, events, and solution.

Retelling Through Illustrations


Again what are the five parts of retelling?

1. Setting
2. Characters
3. Problem
4. Events
5. Solution

The students will then write the parts


of a story from memory and draw
pictures for each of the parts in a
table, similar to the one below.

Lastly, to make the learning experience


more creative the students can pick a
picture from a magazine or from some
printed, add a drawing of themselves,
and write a story to go with it or

They can draw a picture of a special


object they have like the knuffle
bunny and write about it.
