RRJ 1 Chief Seattles Speech of 1854

Summary
This article (Chief Seattles Speech of 1854) tells us about a leader of Duwamish tribes (Chief
Seattle) speech during treaty negotiations. He gives a positive responds to how he trusts
Washington and his people. He agreed to the offer that their land will be settled by the outsiders.
He sees the negotiation as a good proposition that theyre offered. He also pointed out some of
their traditions and beliefs for us to get to know about their people.
Response
This reading is pretty hard to understand, but its really an interesting read for me. The metaphor
which I found in many of the sections makes the article more interesting to read. He gave a great
speech about their people. Their traditions, their belief, all of that caught my interest because its
interesting to see how these people appreciate and love the nature, how they never forgot about
one who already pass away. Its also interesting to see how the negotiations progress, and how
he as the leader handle the negotiation in a way that he put in some certain important points that
will benefit both sides.
Questions
Why did the young men of the tribe often grow angry?
Why did Chief Seattle thinks that every part of the country is sacred to his people?
