The lesson 7: The sun

SST: Aaesha Mohammed Al Shemeili - Aaesha Rashed Al Hebsi

Date: April 13, 2016

What a wonderful feeling ever that make me so excited to teach for peer observation.
I impressed to attend my colleagues Aaesha Mohammed Al Shemeili - Aaesha
Rashed Al Hebsi
In 2A class. I started lesson as usual as showed day, date, unit, lesson and learning
objective. I remind students the importance of following classroom rules and if they
do that will get rewarding. I connected classroom rules to Behaviorism theory such
motivate students keep going on. As I observed that students impressed for this
activity. Another strategy that I was using to promote positive reinforcement was
drawing smiley face to each group. So, at the end I observe which group collects
more smiley face to reward them is called the best group. It was really a great
strategy that make students to pay attention and compete each other to win. As
Behaviorism stated that using positive reinforcement is a way to encourage students
(2014).
Next, I showed a student a video about the sun, but before did that I explained to
them the instruction. That should be focus on video while watching, because I will
stop video to ask question. I decided to use this way, because when I ask students at
end could forget main concept. Thus, this way is really worked well that help students
to obtain knowledge and be enjoyed at the same time (Brunner, 2014). Then, I
applied formative assessment in exploring stage. I showed instruction card on board
and I gave students activity to do by themselves. The activity was students should
select words that related to sun and stick on sun poster. It could be challenging one,
because students will find lots key words could make them confused. But, the aim is
to check their critical thinking. Moreover, the activity implemented group working, thus
when students collaborate as group helps to think in higher level (Vygotsky, n.d). I
think that because each student have own idea, so when they discuss together
assisted to build creative thinking. As I observed that students loved activity, I think
that because it promoted bodily kinesthetic of learning style by using tools to take
effective action while do experiment ( Silver , Strong & Perini, 2016). Then, I selected
one student in each group to present work and discuss as a whole class. It seemed
to me that students did a great working as well. After, I gave students another activity
was describing sun by writing at least two sentences. I realized that students could
find difficulty to write word in correctly way. Thus, for thus reason I used key words
that help them to write sentence of describing sun. I noticed that students were
excited and each group try to describe sun in perfect way to get points. Thus, I
noticed that some group wrote short answer to describe sun. I realized that next time
should give students an example with using connecting words. The last activity was
traffic light to check their achieving objective or not. Each light means something,
such as red light means students not achieve objective, yellow light students not sure
and green light students achieve objective. So, I moved group by group to ask them

question. Indeed that asking question helping students to promote development of

critical thinking of both as group as individual working (McClung & Hoglund, n.d) I
select student to answer, but sharing the answer as a group. I noticed that all
students achieve the objective. My peer colleague were so glad to my lesson that
make me so happy to teach new lesson to another peer colleagues. I discussed with
them the feedback after I taught the second peer observation lesson. It seemed to
me that both of them admired in my lesson and reflect positive points. At the end, I
discussed with my peer colleague about my lesson. They reflected to me that the
lesson was amazing and I used a great strategies in teaching. It is sure that agree
with them points that reflected to me. It was same points that I felt about it. Both of
them recommend to engage all students work as group activity and make eye contact
to each group. So, sure I will work to improve it. Indeed, this was a valuable
experiment, because they evaluated me as a real as not friends. This considered so
important for me, because if they were fake feedback I will not learn from my
mistakes. But, if they discussed with me the mistakes of the feedback will improve
skills in progress. I was so pleasure to their feedback that taught me lots of points
should work in. The importance thing is spent lovely time with me in teaching and
with them to discuss feedback. Moreover, my teacher mentioned to me that was a
great lesson rather than before. As a general I did a great lesson, so sure I proud of
myself.
