What is TROOP?
For that matter what is a TROOPER?

TROOP Began

What is TROOP?

TR OOP
Transitional Looping
Our philosophy with TROOP is to give
identified struggling learners the
opportunity to begin High School with
success, transition with decreasing
support, and graduate in four years with
a post-high school plan.

TROOP Is
0 A Transitional Looping program centralized around a

hub English course that will focus on organization,

self-advocacy, and relationship building in tandem with
the curricular framework of the English curriculum.
0 TROOP will focus on scaffolding both academic and
student skills through the looped four year timeframe.
0 TROOP is a three stage process of transition:
middle school high school post-high school.
0 TROOP is teired, with diminishing in and out of class
support through the four year process, the goal of
which is independence.

What TROOP is NOT

0 A change in curriculum
0 A change in student course planning (except

changing Basic English into TROOP centric

English LC)
0 A structure where students cant be moved
up or out
0 A program that has cross curricular inclusion
all four years
0 A mediation program for behavioral issues
0 A special education class
0 A study skills class

Why is English the Hub of TROOP?

0 Strong Reading and Writing skills are integral cross-

curricular skills.
0 In our experience most students who struggle with
homework lack the skills needed to correctly and
completely communicate ideas to teachers to
demonstrate understanding.
0 Students take English all 4 years of high school.
0 The Center for Public Education reports that the three
highest pre-indicators of dropping out of high school are:
1. Lower Socio-Economic Status
2. Struggling in Math courses in Middle School
3. Struggling in English courses in Middle School
0 The English curriculum is fluid enough to allow for
modifications
