Equipment Used: None Grade Level: Fourth Grade Time: 8 minutes Targeted NASPE Standard(s): Standard 4 Specific Objective: The purpose of this activity is to understand mental health and to learn to relax. Concomitant Objective: Students will learn that taking care of their mental health is just as important as their normal health. Time Procedures Followed Materials Warm Up: I will have students take a quick lap around 1 the gym to get their muscles ready to relax. Minutes

Transition: I will have students meet on the green line
when they are done running, this direction will be given before the lap.

Set Induction: I will ask students how many of them
have gone to the beach & fallen asleep on the sand or maybe they like to relax in bed.

Learnable Piece: This is mental health. I will ask
students how they feel when they are laying on the beach. What are you thinking about? Are you stressed? I will then let them know that when they are relaxed like that they are improving their mental health since they are giving time for their own thoughts. Presentation of New Material/Directions: I will explain to students that they need to find a quiet spot around the gym to relax in, free from distractions & just to lay down there. Transition: I will dismiss students to go to this spot & have them quietly walk there. Activity: During this activity I will have students lay down with their eyes closed. I will tell them to do different things -Staying on your back squeeze together your toe and arches on each foot then relax them -Squeezes your fists as tight as you can & release all the tension -Take 3 deep breaths -Picture youre on the beach with waves crashing at the
shower & relax.

shorter or add in stretches after. Lesson Review: As students open their eyes, I will remind them how important it is to relax.
