StepUp2Tech

National Project Proposal

Nicole Kent
Dundy County Stratton FBLA #8722
In the world of todays teenagers, social media rules. High school students can be found
on their phones as they walk through their school hallways, while they sit at the dinner table, and
even as they take notes in class. In some cases, this can be bad. However, I believe that FBLAPBL can use societys technology and social media addictions to our advantage by creating a
new national project: StepUp2Tech.
Through the StepUp2Tech project, local FBLA chapters would be encouraged to use
various forms of social media in order to stay connected with their members. The StepUp2Tech
project would be on the national website, just like the chapter challenge and the local outstanding
chapter award. The project would open on August 1 and must be submitted by April 1 of each
year. Chapters completing the project should receive ribbons for their nametag at NLC.
Three activities would be required for chapters to complete:
1. Create a Social Media Committee to be in charge of the chapter Twitter/Facebook
page and use that page to actively inform members.
Write a one page report on the committees social media marketing plan.
2. Create and/or maintain a chapter website.
Provide proof of the URL.
3. Have at least 25% of the chapters membership follow National FBLA on Twitter
and/or Like National FBLA on Facebook.
Provide a list of members who like/follow National FBLA.
The chapter then must complete at least three of the following five activities:
1. Enter at least 10% of your chapters membership in at least one of the Microsoft
Office Specialist National Events.
Provide list of competitors from your chapter.

2. Create a chapter Youtube Channel and take videos of chapter meetings for members
who are unable to attend.
Provide proof of URL.
3. Invite a speaker to a chapter meeting who utilizes e-commerce within their business
or who uses technology in their career.
Upload photo and press release.
4. Give a presentation at a chapter meeting about Social Media Etiquette.
Upload a photo and a copy of the presentation
5. Use social media to send out a monthly chapter newsletter.
Upload 100 word summary of the project and one example newsletter.
Through this project, FBLA members will use knowledge and abilities that they already
have to spread their knowledge and love for FBLA. By using social media and other electronics,
FBLA will reach more students than ever before to increase national membership.
In order to put this project into motion, I propose a $2000 budget to begin. In order to
develop the web pages with uploading links, we will budget $800 to pay to the tech experts.
$850 will be spent on ribbons for the first National Leadership Conference after the
implementation of the project. Finally, $350 will be spent to create promotional materials and
raise awareness for the new project.
