LessonRationale:
Weareteachingthislessontoinstructourpeersonthebasiccomponentsofcolor,one
ofmanyartelements.Thislessonwillbeusedtoinstructthebasics,allowingourpeers
tolearnsothattheymayalsofeelcomfortableteachingthebasicsofcolortotheir
classesoneday.Toparticipateinourlesson,studentsmustsimplyshowuptoclasswith

Activity:(2530minutes)
Forthislesson,wehaveplannedfourdifferentstations.Wethoughtthatbyprovidingstations,
itwouldallowourpeerstoexperiencehandsonactivitiesthattheycouldonedayfacilitatein
theirownclassrooms.Also,twoofthestationswillallowourstudentstotakehometheir
ownartwork,thattheymightonedayusewithintheirownclassroomsasexemplars.
Stations(Approximately7minutesperstation)
1. Fooddyestation:
Inthisstation,fooddyeswillbeprovided,aswellas
differentcontainersfilledwithwater.Studentswillhavetheopportunitiesto
usethefooddyes(whichcomesinbasic,primarycolors)totrymixing

secondaryandtertiarycolorsinaformatthatisdifferentthanpaint.Students
willbeaskedtousethedyesparingly,asonedropgoesalongway.Theywill
thenberesponsibleforcleaninguptheirstation,andfillingthecontainersup
withnew,cleanwaterforthenextgrouptocyclethrough.Popsiclesticks,or
coffeestirringstickswillbeprovidedforthemixing.
2. Colorwheelcreationstation:
Inthisstation,wewillhavepreparedblank
colorwheelsthatstudentswillpaintandcreate.Wewillhavethecolorwheels
printedoncardstock,thatwayourpeersmaykeeptheircreationtouseas
exemplarswithintheirownclassroom,shouldtheywish.Wewillbeproviding
detailedcolorwheels,butthisactivitycaneasilybedonewithjusttheprimary
colorwheelforyoungergrades/students.
3. Creatingdifferentcolourshades
Apples

Thisstationwillfeatureblank
appletemplates,andpaintonthetables.Studentswillberequiredtomix
differentshadesofredandyellow,orgreen(iftheycreateit)withblackor
white,tocreatedifferentshadesofsaidcolors.Theywillthenberequiredto
painttheirappleintheshadeofcolorthattheyhavecreated.Theymay
comparetheirapplewiththeirclassmatesiftheyaredoneinadvance.
4. Colourusedinclassroomactivity
Synonyms

:Inthisstation,wewillbe
showingourpeersanactivitythattheycanfacilitatewithintheirown
classrooms.Anassortmentofblankpaintchipswillbestrewnontopofthe
table,andstudentswillhavetothinkofonespecificadjective:Suchas
happy.Theywillthenberesponsibletocometonamemultiplesynonyms,
andwritethemonthepaintchipscorrespondingcolors.Thisisafunand
simplewaytohavestudentsengagedwithlanguagewithinaclassroom:Afun,
colorpaintchipwordwallcouldbecreatedafterthisactivity'scompletion.
Closure:(35minutes)
Wewillfacilitateadiscussionbyaskingourstudentsaboutwhattheylearnedtoday.Next,
wewillasktheclasstoposewiththeircolorwheelcreationsforapicture,whichtheycanput
ontotheirWeeblyportfoliosshouldtheydesire.
Accommodation(s)forDiverseLearner(s):
Forourclass.
Inpeerteachingourclass,wecouldnotthinkofanyaccommodationsthatneedtobemet
withinitslearners.WeknowthatDylanShawiscolorblind,butheisnotinWednesdays
sectionofFineArts,thusweneedednoaccommodations.Wearepredictingthatourstations
willnottakeourclassaslongaswehaveintendedthemto,becauseourpeersarequickerand
moreadvancedthanelementarystudents.

Thus,wearepredictingthatwewillprobablyhavetheclassgothroughthestations,butend
backatstation#2Colorwheelcreationstationtocompletetheirworkiftheydidnotfinish
intheallottedtime(whichweimaginewillbemoststudents).
Foratheoreticalclassofstudents
Planningaccommodationsforatheoreticalclassisdifficult,butwehavecomeupwithsome
suggestions.Mostchildrenenjoypainting,butiftheydonot,theteachercouldtrytouse
PlayDohinitsstead,andhavethestudentmixcolorsthatway.Wewouldallowmoretime
forstationsinarealclass,ordependingontheiracademiclevel,maybeevenfacilitateeach
stationasitsownindividualminilesson.Wewouldhavetobemindful,andgivetheclass
explicitdirectionsconcerningstation#1,thefooddyestationWeknowhowyoung
childrencanoftengetcarriedaway,andhow1dropmaybeforgotten!Wewouldhaveto
explainthatiftheyusedmorethanoneortwodrops,theymightusetoomuch,whichwould
leavetherestoftheclassunabletocompletetheactivity(therewouldbenoneleft!).If
studentswerestrugglingtomixcolors,theteachercouldhelp,orevenpartnerstudents
togethertohelponeanother.Forstudentsneedingscheduleandroutine(ADHD,Autistic,etc.)
wewouldhaveaPowerpointslidewiththedirectionsandeachactivitystimeontheboard.
Evaluation/AssessmentofStudentProgress:
Evaluationforthislessonwouldbeformativeinnature.Theteacherwouldcircleandmake
anecdotalnotesonindividualstudentsprogress,andhelpthemwhenneeded.Iftheteacher
weretoteacheachstationasanindividuallesson,theymightconsidermakingachecklistto
trackeachstudentsindividualrateofprogress(Strong/Good/NeedsWork/Poor).
