Students Prior Knowledge:


- Students have minimal knowledge of the game of
Touch Rugby
- For the majority of the class this is the first time
ever playing the sport.
- Only experience students would have of touch
rugby would be from out of school sport

Motivation and Introduction:


Good morning Year 7s, todays lesson is a very exciting one for you; as we will be starting to play the game of Touch
Rugby. Touch rugby is a very enjoyable game for everyone, IF you participate to your full ability. So on that note, we
are going to commence the lesson with a game of keepy off

Bridging organization

Call the class into the centre position; select one student to collect the balls and the rest of the ball bag
whilst the bibs can stay on the students. (Transition occurs). Ask the students what worked best in that
activity, what skills did we need to use in that activity for it to run smoothly? E.g. communication, spatial
awareness etc.
The Teacher will then organise students to put out cones and then to line up along the lines set up. One line
will be given a ball each and they will then turn and face their partner.
Skill 1: Partner Passing

They will recite and repeat
the KTPs demonstrated
by the teacher by
performing the skill to the
best of their ability.
Students will continue to
practice passing until the
next instructions from the
teacher.
DIFFERENTATION
Students are to try and
complete 6 effective
passes.
Once this occurs,
students will then each
take 1 step back.
If the ball is dropped, they
must take a step back in
towards each other

Lesson Closure: (Review lesson objectives with students)

Ask students to collect the equipment and place it neatly with the other equipment. Then gather
in front of the equipment area

Revisit the key teaching points of the lateral pass and a few of the rules that they have learnt in
the lesson.

Thank the students and allow them to go.

Transition: (What needs to happen prior to the next lesson?)

Reminder to bring water bottles and hats for next lesson, and to rehydrate.

- Lesson objectives will be informally observed throughout the first session.
- By observation while moving around the class and informing students the KTPs in order to
improve their skills.
