Driving: Stay Focused When on the Road. Web. 26 Feb. 2016.

In this article stated by Teddi Johnson is talking about how you can do a lot of things just by
driving your car down the street. For example, checking your phone, messing with the mirror,
putting on your seatbelt, or even messing with the radio. All of these actions keep your eyes off
the road and you lose all attention of whats ahead of you putting yourself and anyone at risk in
the vehicle. In 2009, at least 5,500 people died from distracted drivers and 450,000 were harmed
during that time.
I can utilize this source for my logical argument because it states statistics and facts. This is very
helpful especially when driving is a complex and skill oriented process. This is something that
you must put all of your focus into because even a slight two seconds will put your life in danger.
Looking away from the road while driving is a choice not a need. The information provided in
this article will help provide useful logic for my logical argument.
Hopkins, Kiernan. " Distracted Driving." Distracted Driving. N.p., n.d. Web. 28 Feb. 2016.

This article by Kiernan Hopkins talks about how the National Safety Council and the National
Highway Traffic Safety Administration give their inputs on distracted driving. The article talks
about how the use of a cellular device can cause collision, death or a severe injury. There is a
plethora of statistics utilized in this article like, drivers are eight to twenty-three times more
likely to crash then drivers not texting while driving. and that there were approximately 5.69
million auto collisions total in the U.S. in 2013.
This will be helpful in my logical argument by the way this author utilizes statistics and facts in
the article. Its a useful tactic in writing to have background information and supporting
information in an argument whether you are on the for or against side.
"Distracted Driving." III. N.p., n.d. Web. 28 Feb. 2016.
With this article, it demonstrates how most people that drive use their phone, change the radio
station, or do some activity that takes their eyes off the road. Small habits that we do every day
like eating or talking to a passenger are examples of distracted driving. These habits take away
our attention from the road and not noticing the car right ahead of us. This article demonstrates
some tips that can be helpful while driving like, if you need to call or somebody you should pull
over on the side of the road or to never look at your phone while driving.
I can use this article for its helpful way of giving out tips in the article. This will definitely be a
helpful source when arguing with my logical argument. This article provides resources and
important facts relative to my argument and can be used on the for or against side with the tips it
displays in detail.
Einstein, Paul A. "6 in 10 Teen Crashes Involve Distracted Driving." CNBC. N.p., 25 Mar. 2015.
Web. 28 Feb. 2016.

Paul A. Einstein talks about how sic out of ten moderate to severe collisions are from distracted
drivers. When anyone is behind the wheel and decides to focus on something else going on that
isnt as important as you or another persons life. Different videos and images of the before and
after effects of driving while being on the phone have shown the huge impact of the dangers of
distracted driving. In teenagers, car crashes are one of the most leading causes of death.
This argument can help demonstrate the emotion and logic in my logical argument. Utilizing
other forms of media as evidence like videos and pictures can sometimes help prove points better
than facts. A picture is a thousand words.
Hickey, Hannah. "Distracted Drivers Benefit from In-car Driving Coach." UW Today. N.p., 10
Aug. 2010. Web. 28 Feb. 2016.
Hannah hickey states how distracted driving can be an advantage when using a new system
while driving, a coach. Researchers and studies have shown that being on the phone with the incar driving coach allows you to be on your cellular device and drive at the same time. This
process allows the phone to see what you see and helps low, medium, or high risk drivers stay
more focused on the road. The outcome of this idea is to help distracted drivers realize how
much of a risk they out themselves in when they just take their eyes off the road for two seconds.
This is a supportive article in drivers who take their eyes away from the road for any reason. This
will be helpful resource when viewing distracted driving from the other side. Seeing how big of
an impact it is to not take your eyes off the road will better improve teen driving and decrease
teen deaths and deaths of those that get killed in the process.
Atchley, Paul. "Calling in Cars: What Are the Benefits?" Car Talk. N.p., 14 Dec. 2011. Web. 28
Feb.
2016.

Paul Atchley talks about how being on the phone with someone else while driving isnt a bad
thing. You could be trying to close a big business deal or trying to get information on a family
emergency. He also talks about cellphone bans and how those are decreasing distracted driving
collisions. This demonstrates responsibility and increases attention especially to teen drivers who
need to become more focused when behind the wheel.
Today there are new ways to be on the phone in the car such as built in calling with the car's
radio. There is a bright screen with big bold letters and allows touch screen. Cellphone banning
will stop drunk driving as well. He also states that all of this could be avoided had would
everyone would pull over and make an important call or answer a text that just has to be read.

"Pros And Cons Of Using A Hands Free Mobile Phone While Driving." Elite Driving School.
N.p., 06
Nov. 2014. Web. 28 Feb. 2016.
Some people like to be on the phone while driving as it demonstrates comfort and responsibility.
Using hands free mobile devices such as headphones or Bluetooth devices are great ways in
decreasing distracted driving collisions. This way you can keep your eyes on the road while
enjoying a conversation with another person. Also while driving you are using one hand to drive
and the other hand to hold your phone. This is very difficult when a car is coming and you not
paying attention causing you to swerve and crash. With the use of these devices, you have two
hands on the wheel and perform just as you would be driving normal. Your eyes are still on the
road and your attention to what is coming ahead of you is clear.

I can use this article in my logical argument for a supportive claim in distracted driving. This
article is very obliging and will be used for any primary and secondary sources that I may need
in creating my argument.
