History

Shadow play dramas have a history of over

2,000 years, first originating during the Han
Dynasty (202 BC - 220 AD).

The idea to recreate the shape of the concubine

using donkey. Using an oil lamp, they made
her shadow move, bringing her back to life.

By the time of the Ming Dynasty, there were

40 to 50 shadow play troupes in Beijing alone.

The women dead and the emperor was very sad.
A priest passed some children playing with their dolls.
The priest get an idea.
the emperor visit his shadow wife and hear her stories once again.
That is how shadow puppets first began.

Performance Techniques
