ARTICLE REFLECTION
MY TOP THREE ARTICLES:
How Paralympians are a top
marketing tool.
How they are trying to lower the price
of youth hockey.
How teams benefit from direct
relationship with fans.

PARALYMPANS AS A MARKETING TOOL

(ARTICLE #1)
Stated how Paralympians are growing in
popularity.
In 2014, NBC aired Paralympic games for
the first time.
This article taught me to market to the
mass appeal.
Consumers like to feel the pain and
hear a heart touching story; they think
its relatable.

LOWERING THE PRICE OF YOUTH HOCKEY

(ARTICLE #2)
From 2009-2014, 43.7% uproar in youth
hockey players.
Equipment and ice time is very expensive.
Number of players and profits would be
higher if hockey was more affordable.
This taught me that the product you market
should be affordable for everybody, it
makes the product more marketable.

HOW TEAMS BENEFIT FROM DIRECT

RELATIONSHIP WITH FANS (ARTICLE #3)
Teams make a lot of profit from fan
affiliation.
Fans look at athletes as
superheroes.
Players need to market through
them to keep fan-player affiliation.
This taught me how to market
because an athlete makes a
majority of his profits through fan
affiliation.

and sports. For example Pop Warner Football was created in 1929.
This chapter also taught me about the many community sport organizations and volunteer
sport organizations that are nonprofit organizations that provide organized sport
opportunities for community members.
My favorite part of the chapter was the section that showed us the youth sport offerings
This showed me that there is a variety of opportunities for children to get involved in
activities, there is something for everybody.

WHAT I LEARNED FROM THE BOOK

I learned many things from this book
I learned that there are many things alluding to sport
Many organizations like professional, intercollegiate, and youth sports.
I learned about the many laws and agreements that have evolved over
history.
Most importantly, I learned the true definition of sport and sport
management.

WHAT I THOUGHT ABOUT THE BOOK

I thought the book was very helpful, but I was not a fan of it. I am not a
reader, I am more of a hands on learned. That is why I loved Professor
Gentiles class, she was very hands on and gave us the real life
examples that meant more than any words in a textbook. On the other
hand I thought the textbook had all the proper information to learn
about everything regarding to sport.

SEMESTER IN REVIEW

WHERE I STARTED
When I first stepped into class I was:
A shy and nervous student
Did not know what to expect
Wasnt aware of many issues
alluding to sports
Nervous for group activities

WHAT I THOUGHT
I really did not know what to expect
I thought I would learn the basics on sport
and class would be a breeze.
I was wrong, we learned what sport really
was.
We did this by hard work
We worked every class learning what
sport was and the other passage ways of
sport by hands on activities.

MY FAVORITE PARTS ABOUT CLASS

I thought Professor Gentile was the best instructor
I've ever had.
She was very hands on and gave us real life
examples.
Made it easier to learn and relate to life.
My favorite parts of class were the group activities.
We always acted like professionals and had to
present like we were representatives.
Made us get ready for real world.
