better life for their families. But being in poverty as well as assisted by the welfare system
doesnt allow these mothers to see any opportunity to emerge. Also Depending on the state many
mothers are applied cash assistance for attending school, but many stated were not granted
student loans to help them enroll in school. Also discusses the statistics on how the number of
single mothers in college are decreasing due to the difficult challenges of attending college and
being a single mother.
This article really examines and explains the trials single mothers have to endure in order
to receive a better life. The welfare system makes it very difficult to come out of and it
doesnt allow much opportunity, especially through school. Many single mothers were
successful but it was because of the opportunities they were granted. Many of the
mothers went through non profit organizations to help single mothers become successful.

Reading this article allowed me to see the adversities that single mothers go through. It is
very difficult to see any growth or change within low income communities because of the
welfare system. This article helped me understand my topic better because it really
explained why single mothers are stagnant within poverty and cant make a better live for
themselves.
"Study of Young Parents Highlights Links among Stress, Poverty and Ethnicity." Targeted News
Service Nov 27 2013.
Describes that stress is seen within poverty more than any other social class. Due to the
circumstances they live in as well as what they endure. Many different ethnic groups
went through stress but it seemed that minorities stress level were higher than white
citizens. Minority single mothers seemed to have one of the highest stress level. The
different altitudes and experiences within the US attract more stress to those living in
poverty.
With reading this article I noticed many major points. It was stated that stress
seemed to be present in lower income communities rather than in higher income
communities. The stress of minority single mothers seemed to be above it all. Not only do
single mothers have to survive themselves they also have to protect their children, and
worry about making sure their child is awarded with what they need to emerge.
This article has helped me to understand how being in poverty alone is the highest cause
of stress but being a mother in poverty outweighs it all. Seeing that it is very hard to
really make progres especially being overloaded by stress. This article will help to add on
hat it is very hard for single mothers to emerge out of poverty.
"Free Higher Education - the Biggest Raise our Mothers Will Ever Receive
Opinion]." AllAfrica.com Oct 21 2015. ProQuest.

themselves and their families. Creating even better opportunities for the youth to be a
product of rising out of poverty and not staying in such a bad environment.
All that was discussed within this article really explained what is going on in
South Africa but it also reflected on the same issues that single mothers encounter in the
United States. All that was stated were solutions to create opportunity to help single
mothers be able to receive higher education. Allowing the youth to see positive change,
a change they can do to be successful when they are older.
Reading this article showed that single mothers wanting to receive a higher
education is very hard especially if living in poverty. Even though this article discusses
another countries issues they reflect on the same issues United States has. This made me
understand my topic even more because it really helped narrow down the number one
reason to single mothers not being able to rise out of poverty.

American women in poverty have to deal with and what they have to overcome in
poverty. The social and economic issues that are discussed really explain why it is so hard
to rise out of poverty and the mental impact that it has on these single mothers.
This has helped me to really understand testimonies as well as studies to really show
what it is like in the day of a single mothers in poverty. Not only the economical struggles but
also the mental and family struggles that they deal with day to day. So many problems occur and
it seems to not be a resolution. With this article it will help prove evidence.
