Instructional Objectives (1-2)

Assessment of Student Learning

One/Two Assessed Instructional

Objective(s): The student will be
able to...

Identify Evidence: (What will you collect or record as data

to demonstrate students have met your objective(s) and
skill?)

Use small muscle to grab an

instrument and with hands and
explore the sounds that are
created

Pictures will be taken of student participating in grasp of

object and then reaction will also be noted for child
discovering the sounds the instrument can make with their
senses
Checklist may be created to note childrens exposure to
specific instruments and their reactions.

Academic Language:
Music
Grasp
Shaker
Instrument
Procedural steps:
Musical objects will be given to students to allow exploration.
Hand over hand touch will be demonstrated as the child can
discover the purpose of the object.
For example, a shaker rattles when shaken. A drum thuds
when beaten, tambourines will sound when shaken or
drummed, tapping sticks
During circle time students may receive musical instruments.
Singing songs such as come on everybody shake your
shaker, Mickey Mouse March, or any other song that circle
time will use

Learning Experience

Pictures can be compiled into a class book of students with

musical instruments

Allowing different options for the student to explore will build

experience and exposure to different sounds that can be
created.
Since the main goal for this lesson is exposure and interest, it
is important that Musical instruments can also be left out for
independent exploration to practice small muscle grasp with a
tool by crawling or walking to area.

Safety Considerations:
Use of musical instruments should
be modeled. Musical instruments
are not for hitting and can hurt
other students. It is important to
remind students and help muscle
control if arms are swinging too
wide or too close to another
student.
Resources & References:

Reflection: (What have you learned about your students? How will this inform future instruction?)

Authentic Materials: (Describe authentic real life, hands-on

materials.)
(hese instruments can be meant as musical instruments or
musical instruments can be created from everyday items.
Everyday objects such as toilet paper rolls, beans, plastic
eggs, cardboard boxes, rain sticks, can be used as well
Adult Roles:
Demonstration and modeling of proper instrument use
